Hello.
I have decided to set this thread up so those who are experienced Halo Wars 2 players can help those that are struggling. To keep things clean and simple only post if you have advise or are seeking advise. Try not to be harsh to those who are inexperienced and please don’t mention nerfing. Also only give advice to the specific player by quoting their question. This will keep the thread from getting confusing and help those refer to it later.
I hope you can all contribute to this which will not just help solve peoples questions but could also make the game more competitive.
Many Thanks.
I’m available to give advice in this thread if anyone has tactics or unit effectiveness questions about Anders. You can even ask me how to beat her! I only play Anders, though. So, my advice will be limited to her topics. I’ve got 9 years clocked in as Anders on HW1 and I’m still a purist in this game.
same deal as the previous guy, but atriox.
Have spent countless time in versus ai and skirmish being a
“game scientist”
Testing strategies, and doing different builds with different types of goals etc etc.
The only advice you need are these 2 pieces.
Scout Often
Build units More Often
I can provide advice regarding Atriox, 1v1 and 2v2. If anyone’s interested.
In 2v2 Can somebody tell me their build when they see they’re going up against 2 Kisanos? I usually play as Atriox and my buddy plays as Forge. We’re able to hold off the initial rush but I still feel like I’m playing from behind the whole game.
One of the biggest pieces of advice I can give for new players is to turn on your health bars in the options menu. This will allow you to see what units/buildings need the most attention as well as micro.

I’d be interested, I’m not exactly a newb but I can always improve.
Btw all you new folk, if you’re tech 3 at the 9:00 minute mark and I beat you with an army of grunts and jump brutes it’s because you didn’t build an army and I saw that was what you were doing.
Scout, build units, gg

Arrghh this one is very tricky.
Against good players is next to impossible.
First thing you want to do is scout. You might hear players say things like “it’s obvious they’re going JR rush so why scout?” Wrong! Every once in a while you’ll find flamer rush kinsanos or kinsanos that go fast tech (flame hogs).
If they go for flamers then go Suicide Grunts. Your teammate should ALWAYS go Jack Rabbits, there’s no better opening for UNSC. If you have left over resources then Expand on the non obvious spot (not the natural).
*A natural expansion is the one immediately next or on front your base. Against rushers it is impossible to expand on those locations because their constant unit pumping will scout your expansion efforts. If you managed to hold the rush your priority should be controlling the power nodes and keep your expansion up and running. You’ll have enough resource advantage to overcome your enemy, don’t forget to scout right after the rush to know if they’ll go flame hogs or air (only idiots would continue with infantry after you repelled them).
If they are teching up (you scout an empty fifth plot or double generator) then either rush them or expand. In both of these scenarios you want to have at least 2 power nodes. The build order for atriox rush that I use is: 3 upgraded pads, 1 upgraded extractor and 2 raid camps. Pump 2 grunts and 2 jump brutes non stop. And get Dying Breath.
Lastly, if they’re going double Jack rabbit rush you want to start praying (or cursing) get an Apex and try Engineers+Choppers to keep your turrets and/or minibases up while you tech up and follow with hunters.
It is pretty important against kinsano to prioritize Raid Camps instead of Foundries, because you can counter all her drops with Hunters+Rangers.
Get a foundry only if you manage to expand.

1v1 maybe. But 3v3? Prepare to get Condor/Scarab spammed.

Mmmm not really. I rush on 3’s (team war) when warming up, I’ve like 75% success rate rushing, and even if I fail the rush they never retaliate so it’s just so easy to come back from a failed rush and win the game.
I’m not saying scarabs and condors don’t happen, I’m saying ultimate unit spam happens only if you’re bad enough to let them or if the enemy is good enough to contain you and not kill you after a failed rush.

Well and keep your army alive… If you don’t do that it’s game over for you.

As someone else said, biggest thing is to scout.
They’re likely to double JR rush, which means you need to defend like crazy: turrets, hunters/cyclops, healers (if banished).
Usually they will both hit the same base at once. So, if your opponent is getting hit, then you need to get your anti-v out ASAP.
If they hit you, turtle up and coordinate with your teammate.
When you push them back, continue to scout. Odds are that at least one will go air next. And you need to try to get some map control back.
If you have enough units after the defense, try to push (without losing your army).
If they don’t JR. Then, yeah, play as you would most other games. Scout a lot. Coordinate with your pal.
Expect turret drops almost everywhere. So, be on the alert in those early skirmishes, and keep your units moving.
I have been watching this thread, and it seems like a nice idea.
Personally, I am not what I would call a good RTS player, but I am not exactly bad per se. I have been reading through this thread, and I hope that more people are willing to share information on Halo Wars 2 multiplayer. I play blitz more than the traditional multiplayer, and I have been thinking about getting more into the traditional side of things myself. I am welcome to any suggestions and tips from more experienced players about this traditional play.
I know some things, such as the following:
Scout your opponents (I have read this is quite important)
Some basics of rushing (I have read there are variations on this)
Countering with certain units (I know some basics here, but more help would be nice)
Keep building units
And a few other basics
I am considering trying to get into the normal type of multiplayer like I said above. I am unsure which specifically I will try first, but I am thinking about things like 2v2 or 3v3 before I try some 1v1.
Any suggestions or help that the more experienced players of this thread could say would be appreciated.

State your leader please. Ppl with same leader will help.

Oh, of course. I usually go with UNSC, often Forge or Kinsano, but I am open to others.
If people here are looking for me to list particular leaders, I would probably say those two.
For anyone out there, I am an experienced banished player. I know many tactics with all three (soon to be four) banished leaders. So I’ll accept any questions or you can tell me if certain units or strategies aren’t working for you.

Those two leaders are extremely different in the way they play. Forge is late game while kinsano is early game (mainly). I main kinsano, personally. I can tell you that she is strong but very difficult to master. You gotta have like eight brains to process everything with her, plus she is getting nerfed on monday. I could show you what i do if you want, but the best way to learn is to COMPLETELY AVOID 2v2 and get your -Yoink- kicked in 1v1 many times.

I’m not a pro but I have been playing RTS games for years. Although having a plan is good be willing to adapt ASAP. Being stubborn and following a set way becomes predictable which means easy to counter. Also be aware what may work one time might not work in a similar situation. It sounds confusing but its like learning to ride a bike it become instinct. Also bear in mind that you can only get as good as your brain will allow some people are very good at RTS others struggle with it its how your brain is able to process info but playing often can help improve this.

I just put up a minibase and fast tech to tech 2. UNSC gets tech 2 like 20-30 seconds before Banished does.
