For the millionth time, lag is a problem!!!

It’s turned a lot of people off Halo 4, and quite frankly even I’m getting sick of it now…
All the blackscreening randomly, the poor host selection and the lag shots/stickies, haven’t you people realised its atrocious…

I live in Australia, I know I’m not always going to get perfect games, but Reach was far less laggy/Blackscreeny than Halo 4, and nothing has changed regarding my internet connnection, etc

Oh and its not just me either

I lost hundrets of games because of bad host.

If you dont live in USA, you gonna have a lag time!

But its laggy since 8 months, so I think there wont be any chances. And it would be to late

Looking forward to Halo 5 and its dedicated servers.

Obviously we have realised there is lag, we heard the other 999,999 who said it before you.

I know, justventing, the lag is downright depressing sometimes…

I have a good broadband so it’s not me

i just got Deadeye helmet for free today so random lol

actually, I live in USA, I haven’t played h4 for about 3 - 4 months now, I quit because the Lag was so bad (out of 10 games , 7 would be laged from mild to Black screen hell) , now when I need a Halo fix, I pop in Halo Reach, which does not lag more then 5% of the time and no black screens.

yes, but it never hurts to keep this issue in the forfront, maybe something will be don about it, though probubly not for h4.

Yes, but they do something about it, the current players would certainly appreciate it and it may bring back some gamers to H4…

How exactly would they be able to fix lag anyways? I would really like to know, because I’ve always wondered that. Does anyone here actually know how?

Of course there is going to be lag in a host based video game. What do you expect 343 to do about it exactly? Buy you a better internet connection?

Listen I have a 30 down 5 up internet connection and I run a direct connection to my modem. This game has turned to absolute -Yoink-! Every game is laggy as all hell I can’t even play it anymore its so ridiculous. Good job 343 you guys have no clue what your doing this is the worst server EVER! Kids eat shots 24/7, The worst hosts are chosen it’s just ridiculous its getting to the point where im this close to cracking my disc in half. Xbox one better fix these issues and 343 needs to realize that there is a serious problem with this game. Not fun anymore. And I am an avid gamer who plays competitively in throwdown and I have played Halo ever since halo 2 and been pretty damn good at it but not anymore. Can’t kill people when your shots dont do damage to them! I give up

I live in the US and lag has been a major problem for almost every game I’ve played for a pretty long time now. At least 2 out of 3 games I play I get blackscreen; sometimes it’s 2,3, or even 4 a game. Damage is really inconsistent now and people are teleporting like mad. But the worst is when everyone in the game dies randomly and no one respawns. That’s happened twice to me in the past 3 days. I know this game has been laggy since launch, but Jesus this is ridiculous.

You really should re-read his post. As he stated, with Halo Reach he has 5% games lagged as compared to 70% of H4 games.

I have nearly identical numbers (70% of my 1400 H4 War Games are as lagged as 5% of my Halo Reach games are), except I can confirm other multiplayer games like Sonic, COD II, GTA IV andH3 never lag as bad as H4 does. I have been lagged by 0.5 to 5 second in 5 H4 BTS games in a row, quit H4, inserted the Reach disk - launched Reach and then played 10 games in a row with 1 game having 30 seconds of H4 type lag.

The reason Halo Reach doesn’t lag anywhere near what H4 does is because:

  1. Halo Reach picks host based on best connection for each Match. H4 picks host using “host history”, which means if you are a newb and have not played the game much, you get host. If you played lots of games and any of those games were lagged - regardless if it’s your connection or not - then you get a bad host reputation. To exemplify this, please read my real world occurrence of this here (also described my connection oo)

https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postsm2567780_Is-Halo-4-s-Netcode-Bogging-Down.aspx#post2567780

  1. Reach has a “Best Connection” filter which matches people up with good connections, which also tends to work as a “Local Only” connection too. H4 tosses anyone into the game, so you get whatever for a match. Although the argument has been made that this slows down the lobby waiting, I can usually find a game of BTB Slayer in reach within a few minutes despite Reach only showing 2,500 people playing BTB - which is comparable to what I get for BTS in H4 with 8,500 players. And I will wait a bit longer in the lobby if I get a great game with minimal lag.

  2. Halo Reach is just much better at matching people together.

And if these filters were included in H4 (they do have the Reach source code to use as a guide too), then I likely would stop playing Reach and play H4.

The lag is insane in Halo 4. I live in America and there are so many games that are huge lag fests. Sometimes a game is going fine and then in the middle it starts to lag. I haven’t played a game that has more lag than this.

Getting shot through walls because you’re a full second or two behind on everyone else’s screen is frustrating beyond reason.

Ever since Halo Reach passed from Bungie’s servers to 343’s it’s been just as bad too.

No, can’t quite agree on that, I’ve played some Reach recently, some ten or so games in a row, with only one game that lagged.
And guess what, the blackscreen only went for 20 seconds max before a new host got picked…!

I get more lag in Reach from crappy hosts generally from Mexico, or even here in Australia. ._. Halo 4 is much better for me most of the time though.

The game has poor netcode. I have no idea if that’s something that’s fixable or not or if we just have to wait till the next game. The low population doesn’t help either. When there a limited option to match you up with then it makes it difficult to find a quality connection while maintaining a reasonable search time. The rare occasion I play CoD I notice that the majority of players I match up with are in the PNW. In Halo 4 the host always seems to be in the Midwest or East Coast thus increasing the ping time. I just hope when they go to dedicated servers that they have some in Kirkland or Redmond so ill have good ping times.
