343 took making the story for the fans way too far. Besides Locke being the most boring character of all time with no personal goal or motivation in life besides following orders, I have no idea what’s going on in the story. And I’m a halo fan - think about how people trying to get into the series must feel. 343 did a horrible job explaining the backstory and they relied too heavily on their audience having prior knowledge of the universe that most of us in reality don’t have
Is this opinion based off of having actually played the game?
For the fans my -Yoink-. You call blue team only getting 3 missions out of 15 “for the fans”
This was a flaw in Halo 4 and its shame it carried over to 5. Im pretty well versed of the halo lore so im sure I will enjoy it but for those who are not it sucks. Hopefully, they change writers and decide to find a way to introduce concepts and characters in game.

Sadly, yes. As someone who mostly plays multiplayer it’s still very disappointing that I have to use google to even find out what’s happening in the game I’m playing
Uhmm what ? If they did it for the fans they would’ve killed off Locke a long time ago and wouldn’t have put Chief and blue team on the sidelines.

I still fail to see how this is any worse than Chief’s characterization in the first 3 Halo games.

Why does Locke deserve to die? Because he’s not John?

I was thinking the same thing, John was literally and emotionless vessel for the players to inhabit, he was uninteresting in just about every way.
Dont worry, the people who have read the book like myself also dont have idea of what in hell is going on. I mean, i get what is happening, but it just seems so out of nowhere and ridiculous that i dont have a clue.

Speak for yourself, bud. I see the general seeds of what is going on, but I feel the Intel will flesh things out more.

The difference is that bungie meant for chief to be like that - they built the story around him but their characterization and emotion were based around the supporting cast. 343, in contrast, centers their entire weight around a character that they INTENDED to be interesting but fell flat

I couldn’t agree more. The stories have always been kinda all over the place, but at the least in the first few, I had a concept of what was going on and why…

Because he’s bland.

Regardless, the Chief has had the benefit of 4 games and multiple novels to become someone we don’t see as boring and uninteresting. Locke has has, what, a couple of easter eggs and an underwhelming mini series?
Chief was boring, but he’s not any more. Let the same happen to Locke.

And John wasn’t in his first Halo game?

I don’t want Locke to die, I think he deserves a spot standing beside Chief like Arbiter stands beside him. So not sure why people want Locke dead or people want Chief dead. Have a pretty good feeling they don’t do anything to each other and end up on the same side. (Like Chief and Arbiter).
