I want to reach out to those of you who, like me, were severely dissatisfied with the direction of H5’s story when it was over. I, like many of you, was completely let down after my playthrough of the campaign and couldn’t help but be so when I thought of all the potential it had built up to it.
Although personally I believe he was sort of mis-used and misunderstood in H4, I loved the idea of MC having a main antagonist to contend with for future games, and the Didact is a great character to be that for him. I was upset when he was seemingly written out in a comic strip, only to be a passing name in H5. I was upset with the way Jul was treated and believed his storyarch deserved a much better end (and still do). And in no way shape or form can I BEGIN to describe how upset I was with the re-introduction of Cortana as the main villain after her sacrifice in H4.
There are numerous things that H5 did right, but to me, none of that really matters as much if the story behind it all doesn’t give enough reason to be fighting or training (such as in MP) to begin with.
If there are any of you out there like me, I would just like to direct you to HiddenXperia’s youtube channel. I’ve been watching his videos, and seriously his theories and ideas on Cortana, the Didact, Mendicant Bias, and even the Flood, and how they all can still possibly tie in to the Halo universe as it stands now even after H5-they have renewed my hope in the story should 343i actually be doing these things in secret. I mean heck, maybe there is a more sinister plot developing behind the scenes and H5 was just a set-up for it all. And if that’s the case, I’m all for it.
I’ve been invested in this game since I was 10 years old, and to possibly see all these beloved characters and motivations still have a chance to recieve proper treatment is a joy and I just had to share it with anyone else who feels the same way.
Disclaimer though, I still think 343’s storyTELLING could use some work, but that is not what this post is created for.
TL;DR: if you are upset with the story direction of H5, check put HiddenXperia’s youtube channel and maybe it will renew your hope in the story.
