I can’t be the only one thinking this, right? why is it that the guy with the commando or CQC shoulders and jorge’s chestpiece go down as fast as a guy wearing default or recon? why does the guy with the jump-jet shoulders not fly better than the guy wearing the giant–Yoink- security ones? why does the guy with the grenades on his belt or the shotgun shells in his forearm or the sniper bullets on his shoulders not ACTUALLY USE THEM?
what i’m saying is… 343 should make custom armor decisions actually impact gameplay, not just be aesthetic! for example, bulkier armor would give better protection but would make you move slower, while light armor would increase movement speed at the cost of making more frail. Bullet attachments would give you more starting ammo for some weapons, while grenade attachments would give an additional grenade. I think that this would implement a whole new level of strategy and skill to multiplayer, and give rise to a far more varied and exciting experience. Players could customize themselves to match different maps, better equip themselves for their playstyles, or parties could plan out their setup for better synergy! This could also be a unique way of armor abilities to be implemented… instead of decreased movement speed, bulky armor could be unable to or slightly worse at running, evading, or jetpacking than other armors would.
There is that argument that “its not fair for beginners”, but this kind of equipment progression has been successfully implemented in the battlefield and call of duty series before, and they do fine. plus this sort of thing would add much more replayability, as getting credits or points or whatever the hell money would be called would actually have a point (not like in reach where credits do little more than determine how pretty you are).
arena mode could have this sort of thing disabled, and armor choices would not impact gameplay there. regarding balance issues, the armor shouldn’t have THAT much of an impact on gameplay, but the effect of wearing certain pieces should be noticable. like the grenade belt shouldn’t give the player the 14 odd grenades it shows, but it should at least give one or two.
not everything would have to impact gameplay, though. things could just be added in for cool effect like the visor colors or inclement weather.
> The closest thing was AAs (8having the ability to have upgraded characters based on choices at the begining of each match/life).
what was wrong with the armor abilities? everything besides armor lock is balanced and the abilities were fun to use! it was a great concept that just wasn’t executed perfectly, it didn’t “ruin” halo at all…
you’re saying that giving the players more options is bad? everyone should stick to the same strategy or the game is “ruined”?

A lot of Halo fans would disagree with you on that.
More player OPTIONS? Options and balance are two different things.

I don’t see how giving players the option to change their character to match their playstyle is that bad of a thing. You’re implying that adding in new stuff will definitely break a game’s balance before its even released. with around a full year to go, and the game being in development for quite some time, i really doubt that 343 couldn’t be able to balance out any mechanics they’ve had in store. the addition of this sort of thing doesn’t mean the game will be broken because, as i said, this sort of thing has been done MANY times by other very successful series. more options for a player is rarely if ever a bad thing!
armor abilities was bungie/343’s first foray into character customization, if they try again i’m sure they’ll get it right, especially since Halo 4 is an actual AAA title and not a spin off.
Sounds like a completely awful idea. Why would we want this? It further deviates from the competitive gameplay Halo: Combat Evolved first offered us.
But given the road the masterminds behind Halo are going, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see this. But if it were actually to happen, then it would be See You Later, Goodbye to online Halo for me. I would simply quit.
I’m going to have to agree with everyone else and say I’m not for this idea. I want halo brought back to the core gameplay of the earlier releases. Armor abilities werent good, I don’t want to expand upon that with armors having different perks.
> GOD no…At least in the normal game.

> Halo has always been about “Everyone starts even”. As an option or game mode, it could be fun…But NOT in the default mode.
