FIFTEEN. BATTLEPASS. LEVELS. IN. SEVEN. HOURS.
DOING WHAT I WANTED TO DO (Work on Stasis Prototype, Lost Lament and Ager’s Scepter), not what Bungie tried to force me to do.
About 12 of those Battlepass levels came from doing the Exotics, and the other 3 from doing Nightfall Strikes for the Weekly.
In Gears 5 I can get multiple Levels in the Tour of Duty per day a the start, about one a day during the middle and then 1 every two days towards the end…unless I do the Seasonal Challenges too, which start handing out half and entire Tour levels even at the end.
In 7 hours of playing Infinite, I got maybe…4? 5? BP Levels. Total. Doing ALL of the arcane and weird challenges you wanted me to do instead of playing how I wanted to play.
And you know? I’ve never once stopped playing a game because I finished the Battlepass . In fact, I wanted to keep playing because now that I was done I could show off the hot new stuff I had unlocked, even in the next Season (I mean, I did stop playing Destiny 2, but that was due to lack of gameplay content and nothing to do with the Battlepass).
I actually still spent IRL Money on those games because I wanted the quality items they put in the shop to go with the stuff I had unlocked from the Battlepass - looking hella nice rockin’ up folks with my Armored Kantus and Glory weapon skins, or having my now BP-Armored Titan go Super Sayian with an emote.
Earning those items fairly and in a way I felt was at least somewhat respectful of my time made me more inclined to spend money. But right now the BP system in Infinite makes me want to NOT spend money because it leaves me frustrated at the end, not in a good mood .
It’s basic, 102-level psychology 343/MS; happy players who feel respected are more likely to spend money over time . You’re fishing for whales to make it big with your current model 343, ignoring the schools of fish that will keep you fed and alive for a lot longer if you try for them instead.
