For all the Halo 5 Haters....

Allow me to preface this by saying that I have no intention for this post to start a flame war, I am legitimately curious…

If there was a general consensus of things that YOU as a Halo 5 Hating community would need to see in Halo 5 in order for you to STOP hating it, I’d be interested for you to explain it to me. I get that sprint is a sore spot for many of you, I disagree, but that’s not the point. Somehow if they removed sprint I still doubt many of you would be happy, so what else is it? If you would give me a quick rundown of things you would like changed or removed, why you think it ruins the game, and if you’re feeling generous, an explanation of why the changes from Halo 4 to Halo 5 (removal of ordnance drops, loadouts, etc) are not a good thing? Thank you for your time.

Wow. This has sat here for 12 hours and nothing. Usually a post like this would have some basement fanboy would be spewing a novel of 343I hate within 10 minutes while spilling dorietos all over their underwear.

Honestly most of those people have placed a general idea what they much prefer for the halo 5. For me it just came down to the fact that I just cannot enjoy there new frankstien version of halo. I know that a lot of you do but most of use who dislike halo 5 will not be persuaded to like it and post like this is mostly a waste of space. We will most likely move on and try and find games we can enjoy and like I post in hopes that my desires are emplaced for the game. I love halo but I am not looking for this kind of change to my favorite console fps.

Remove ADS (343I claim it’s not but some Smart Scope when in actual fact it’s aim down sight’
Remove drifting

Remove thrust

Maybe keep the wall climbing but improve on it since at moment it just feels messy at moment, sluggish.

Remove Spartan chatter, weapon placement markers/timers/loadouts

Remove Kill-cams

Remove Spartan end game animation. (Here’s a better idea…let the player choose animation to mess around in-game while letting players do what they want)

Avoid armour sets and go back to armour pieces like in Reach.

Avoid over-using weapons like DMR and start adding more variety to the weapons since it’s become less likely for someone to want to use different weapons.

  1. Don’t remove ADS( call of duty is not the only game with ADS you know)

2.I don’t see a problem with that

  1. I half agreed

  2. No just no :I

  3. I agreed

  4. Yea like Spartan during the gangnam style is maybe a good animation victory

7.What, I like the Spartan 4

  1. I have to agreed, they need to add new weapons.

As someone who is completely hype for Halo 5 and saw the beta as a superb step forward, there are still a few things I would tweak to make it a lot better.

  1. Remove the mini-waypoints that show where weapons are

  2. Remove the countdown timer for incoming power weapons (have you ever seen a bigger incentive for someone to camp a specific location?)
2b. Remove the waypoint for power weapons until they are actually spawned

  3. Make Smart Scope linked to your shields so that you can’t use it one your shields break (with obvious exceptions for scoped weapons like the Sniper and DMR)
3b. Add a slight iron sight to the Battle Rifle so that when you can no longer use Smart Scope, you can still do that ADS animation and get the benefits of being scoped in

  4. Speed up the scope-in time with the Sniper rifle (heard they were already doing this one)

  5. Make the DMR more like the Lightrifle (slow fire rate, heavy hitter), as opposed to being on similar footing as the Battle Rifle.

  6. No grenades in the Breakout gametype. None at spawn, none on the map.
6b. Either no Battle Rifles on the map, or put them closer to the middle to force conflict over them (probably the first one, because if one team got both BRs they would dominate)

I can live without this stuff though, the Halo 5 beta was already the most fun I’ve had playing Halo multiplayer in a long time.

Sprint

The End

The game without it and with the subsequent tighter maps would actually be quite amazing. Everything else is fairly minor in comparison.

> I just don’t enjoy that Halo is drifting towards adopting the fundemental mechanics of most other mainstream FPS games as opposed to retaining the elements that made it unique. A lot of people wont like this or agree with me but literally the first thought I had around 20 seconds into playing the beta was: feels quite alot like Titanfall.
>
> It seems as there is a coalescence of design choices that these games are all adopting. Sprint, clamber, thrust, hit markers etc. Loadouts have been removed but it was unfortunate that 343 needed to release a game containing them to show them that they didn’t work in Halo.
>
> Another thing I dislike is all the in-game feedback/handholding. Weapon timers, spartan chatter, hit-markers, beeping/popping when you land shots, medals appearing in the centre of the screen for nearly every action imaginable. Are players that ignorant and of low attention spans these days that this kind of stuff is required? What happened to players having to learn to recognise the simple nuances of previous games such as learning timers, callouts and recognising shield flare?
>
> It just feels all too generic and geared towards making Halo as accessible as possible to new players. Halo was always a game that had to be learned and ‘figured out’ before you got the most out of it; that aspect was always very rewarding.

I agree with all this as well. I just feel as though I can deal with everything besides sprint. Sprint is the 1000 pound iron rod that smashed the camel’s back.

Halo 5 beta was awesome, I can’t wait for the full game. I just hope the community would stop bashing the -Yoink- out of it like they did to Halo 4. To all the haters, either accept change, or -Yoink-! Seriously, your negativity can only hurt this game and I don’t want the population to die off after a month due to ignorant behavior of this -Yoink- halo community, -Yoink- OFF HATERS!!

Make the game unique. Stop copying things that happen to be ‘in’ right now, aka Sprint, ADS and casual-friendly gameplay.

Making a game that has almost nothing unique about will make it a flavor of the month, because people will get bored of it fast. See CoD, Destiny and every other shooter these days.

So unique is having old basic mechanic’s that can be considered out of date instead of unique. It was never unique to not have sprint and ADS before.

it was just normal, but now that most games moved on from the old feeling gameplay these things are now unique and apparently what made halo, halo.

The thing is, yes halo 5 may have a lot of features from ‘generic’ shooters but the original halo’s had a lot of features from ‘generic’ shooters at their time too.

Some of the changes can be lived with. I don’t like the Spartan chatter, but could learn to live with it.

I don’t like the ADS/smart-scope, but could learn to live with it.

I don’t like the insane number of medals flashing on-screen, but could learn to live with it

All of the movement-based changes need to go. If they stripped out the sprinting, the thrusting, and the clambering, I’d be willing to give this game another chance.

All of the on-screen indicators for weapon locations, grenade indicators, etc detract from the game. I could probably learn to live with them, but they’re more detrimental than the chatter and ADS.

Ground pound… just… why? Who thought this was a good idea? It is superfluous at best. At worst, it’s a gimmick that will be used more as a taunt than anything. “I have the high-ground advantage over another player… I could shoot him and get my kill without having to give anything up, or I could fire my body down on him like a -Yoink!- missile while losing the high-ground I once held.”

Wow, lots of good responses. Thanks a lot. It seems like the general consensus is that people don’t like a lot of the in game notifications (spartan chatter, weapon waypoints, etc) and the movement (Sprint, clamber, thruster pack). So now that 343 has indicated that they will give the option to remove most if not all of those things through custom games, why has that not earned them any points. Invariably they will take feedback into account as they have before. I’d be surprised if they didn’t have a legendary slayer variant or something built into the base game this time.

Regarding smart scope, people still keep saying that it’s nothing but ADS, I guess then I’m confused about your definition of ADS, because after changing the controls to my preference, I still clicked RS to zoom in, it felt EXACTLY the same as previous games, it just LOOKED different. Now I can zoom in on automatic weapons as well, that’s not a bad thing to me. What makes it a bad thing is that zooming in on automatic weapons decreases spread and increases damage, THAT is bad, but has already been confirmed to be changing, so it’s ultimately irrelevant…

Ultimately, I have loved every single halo game since CE, and I have always played the most current one with more regularity than any that came before it. I am sure halo 5 will be no different. It’s still Halo.

So “modern” is having mechanics that focus on how quickly a player can press one button and let the game do the rest?

This is why buying that new console was a bad idea, Lettuce…

You also assume the very same thing Anti Sprinters are accused of assuming all the time - that the existence (or in this case, lack thereof) of a mechanic effects all games the same way. I triple dog dare you to play Unreal Tournament, Half Life, and Halo CE, and tell me all three play similarly, even though none of them have a sprint mechanic. Halo forever remains unique in its simplicity. I’m confident that this will never change, no matter what fads may come.

To the OP and Mods. Thanks, both of you, for facilitating this discussion. I clicked here expecting to get my opinion -Yoinked- upon by a zealous fan. I’m pleasantly surprised.

Tbh, I wouldn’t really care about most of the movement mechanics if I retained full control of my weapons. My only real bug bears are Sprint, and the ADS on automatics. #SMG2OP

Someone mentioned dropping ADS entirely when the shields failed. That’s -Yoinking- genius. You could also legitimize it in the canon, saying that the suit is pulling back all none essential functions to keep the players alive, and provide a bit of a buff to base health.

Also, the Sprint deactivation means nothing if you don’t play customs, and I assumed it would be in the game from the start. That…that was a normal assumption, right? If the community hadn’t pitched a fit it would have been in the game anyway, right?

I haven’t read everyone’s responses but I feel I’ll cover most of them here.
1: I like having sprint standard, in 2015 no sprint feels like a half finished game, my problem with sprint is in halo Reach only some players had it and it often belittled other abilities, with it being standard this issue has been resolved so I wont waste any more time talking about it. In Halo 4 however sprint was RIDICULOUSLY broken. I noticed some people would us the mobility perk in order to sprint around the map with the wetwork perk that allowed you to perform assasinations quickly (on’t remember the name) but yeah you get why this is a problem, in Halo 5 with shields not recharging while sprinting I feel this is fixed even with unlimited sprint, So as far as sprint, Halo 5 does it right.
2: Ordinance drops. They removed them. THANK YOU. I felt that ordinance drops especially if Ordinance Priority was used made it way too easy to obtain power weapons and the game sometimes felt like vehicles were useless, there was no need for map control ect. I also think this is done right in Halo 5.
3: Spartan callouts. I could take or leave them, just decrease the frequency a little and I’m happy.
4: Loadouts: Now this is gonna be a controversial segment…I like the idea of loadouts, and before someone says “Halo is copying COD” keep in mind COD has loadouts, Battlefield has loadouts, Medal of Honor has loadouts (remember that game? xD). Halo is not copying anyone! That would be like saying “well your house has a toilet so I better not have one, OK kids go dig a hole in the backyard” That’s a silly thing to say. The CONCEPT is good, however the way 343i executed loadouts in Halo 4 was horrible. (before someone tells me yes i’m aware that Halo 5 beta had no loadouts I’m speaking hypothetically in case they change their mind) I think perks have no place in Halo. Perks, or at least the way that they were balanced in Halo 4 are horrible, Half the perks had little strategic value, many perks were flat out cheap (the one that ejected you from vehicles. I also think the armor abilities shouldn’t be in the game, but I digress from my current topic. Loadouts would be good if you could choose from a variety of primary weapons ONLY, secondary is default magnums, here’s why: in Halo 4 I stopped playing because I was tired of someone EMPing me with a plasma pistol or camping the corner with a boltshot, thought the EMP could happen in other Halo games it was rare and therefore was still a nuisance when it happened bu you knew the person EMPing you ha to go search for that plasma pistol and it wasn’t just a cheap shot (the same concept applies to plasma grenades. So anyhow moving on I think we should be able to choose between a variety of weapons that are unlocked as we play, but use alot of weapons, another problem I lost interest in Halo 4 about six months after release was there was nothing viable to unlock, in my opinion the armor skins were barely noticeable not to mention the armor looked lame, and specializations weren’t worth it (Armor looked lame, perks were usually bad, yes I did reach 130 and try all the perks) I want every halo gun (not power weapons) available for customization I want also like in Halo online extended mag options, I want a sixty round assault rifle (MA5B I believe), I want a thirty two round assault rifle from Halo 3, I want the BR55 and 85, I want carbines, needle rifes, needlers ( yes in halo 4 it was a power weapon but I disagree with the power weapon status) I want spikers, plasma repeaters, plasma rifles, brute plasma rifles, even the sentinel beam, DMRs, ect. I think it would be cool if 343i used the weapon variety from past games to make a better experience, if they don’t I understand and to be clear I don’t mind not having custom loadouts, my one request bring the plasma rifle back, throughout every Halo game I wield that thing in campaign 9/10 times, also the brute plasma rifle looked great in ODST would love to see that too. (Forgot to mention how about silenced weapons on the UNSC side maybe return of silenced SMGs)
5: Firefight, firefight, FIREFIGHT! I want to see the return of firefight, personally I hated spartan ops, I felt that the dialogue was poor almost seemed kiddy like at time (with whats his name Dolman? pointing out the painfully obvious, I don’t think a real spartan would do that) If 343i could combine the firefight gameplay from ODST, the firefight voices from Reach (and maybe also the AIs from Installation 04) and larger scale firefight with scorpions, that would be great. Also no need for firefight verses, I played it a few times with a friend and we found it to be very lame.
6: Well I’m limited on time today so please comment your opinions and 343i please read this, I think you are on the right track with Halo 5 but PLEASE take some of my suggestions seriously. Have a nice day.
