FOOOOOORGE

So, I’ve just decided, “Put down SW: Battlefront for one second and try Forge.” And boy am I confused. Can anyone give me any tips for Forge? Just in general, really.

Fooooood! There are these guys on YouTube who might be able to help, I think they are called forge labs.

It’s confusing to me too. I heard that you should just experiment around for a few days and then you’ll get the hang of it. I tried making exile but I gave up.

It is a lot more complicated but with practice its easy to use.
‘A’ and ‘B’ move your forge monitor up and down.
‘Y’ will bring up the forge piece menu, allowing you to select items for you to place.
‘X’ will bring up the object options menu when you hover the cursor over an object. (This lets you change object color, physics, etc.)

Manipulating pieces:
First you will want to select an object. First, place an object by selecting the piece you want from the forge piece menu.
To select an object that has been placed is done by pressing ‘R Bumper’ with the cursor hovering over the object.
You also select up to multiple pieces at once, 64 to be exact!
You can also deselect objects by pressing ‘L Bumper’ which will deselect all items, or press the ‘R Bumper’ again over a selected item.
(Selected objects will appear to have a yellow glow around the object.)

To move forge assets, first select the items you want to move, then hold ‘L Trigger’ and use any of the movement buttons such as moving the left stick o move the piece on a horizontal plane and ‘A’ and ‘B’ to move the piece up and down.

To rotate the object you must simply hold ‘R Trigger’ and use the left thumbstick to rotate the piece.
Note: when rotating an pbject watch for the red and blue corcles representing the axis you are rotating the object on.

(Both movement and rotation manipulation are based off of a coordinate system which can be changed by increments. This cam be done by holding down the trigger for whichever object manipulation youwant and pressing the ‘D-Pad’ left or right.)

Magnets can be turned on by pressing up on the ‘D-Pad’ while holding ‘L Trigger’.

This is just a way to get a basic understanding with the new forge. For more complicated forge tips just ask on the forums or go onto youtube. The ForgeHub youtube channel has a lot of good tutorials.

Start by making a small building. Doesn’t have to be gameplay-friendly. Make walls, a foundation, a floor, and a decent roof. Throw some lighting in there when you’re done. Then color the blocks. Make a chimney if you want, maybe some other little details.

Another fun this is to have a map where you just experiment with scripting and the physics. After a while you’ll make things that you bake the lighting on and literally say to yourself “Woah. That’s awesome.”
