Food For Thought

I have played Reach thoroughly, and for a while I considered that while it was a great game, It was a radical departure from the normal Halo formula. That is the big reason so many Halo players left soon after Reach’s release. Then I had an epiphone. If you take armor abilities out of Reach, you have a game that is shockingly similair to Halo CE. After all, CE never had any burst fire weapons, so neither does Reach. The DMR is extremely similair to the magnum in accuracy and function, but of course is not nearly as overpowered. The shotgun is actually longer range than it was in Halo 3. There are throw back maps that, while they are updated, they have the same weapons available that you would have had in the original. All the same vehicles or their equivalents are there as well, and then some. Now I think about how strange it is how so many Halo players shunned what was basically CE with more options than any previous Halo game. If CE truly was the best Halo, as I have heard from so many players, then why do so many people hate Reach? Just for armor abilities? That are completely optional in both choice and use? Really?

I really don’t think that many players left. I still come across people that use Halo 3 tactics (like strafing) in my game-to-game DMR fights. Also I have seen an exponential increase in higher ranked players like Nova and Eclipse etc so there must be people playing the game faithfully/ daily. Armor Abilities were a cool addition to the same old formula I thought and if some players didn’t like them, like you said - they are optional and there are some playlists that limit them/ don’t even have them. I don’t think the addition of AA’s would drive someone to completely quit playing Halo.

All-in-all I think that we have a pretty strong following for this game and if some people chose not to play than so be it.

Even without all the gimmicks (Including bloom which is why the majority left) this game does not play like CE.

For starters there is the massive amount of aim assist making weapons much easier to use. Then there is the lack of movement speed, strafe acceleration, long killtimes, grenade fuses being short and massive hitboxes.

Reach is like CE in that it has Halo in the title.

If you define Halo as aim assist, movement speed, strafe acceleration, killtimes, fuses and hitboxes then you are making a mistake in your identification of a brand.

I have been with Halo for a decade now, not one of the things you listed ever factored into my like or dislike or identification of Halo the game. You would be able to add AA to that list, but from the moment that I played Reach, AA brought a fresh spin to an old classic and this player has enjoyed them, alot. Apparently so do others as Reach has maintained fantastic population numbers that any franchise beside CoD would sell their soul for.

In one of bungies latest vidocs (cant remember the name) one of them said they sold their souls when they teamed up with Microsoft. I dont like getting into the illuminati subject, but it bugs me when I see or hear satanic references in music (from the beatles to jay z, from eminem to lady gaga)/games. As for Reach, I really liked it and I hate when people say its no good.
