Food for thought: Is Classic Halo slow?

H2 is my love man, the speed of the gameplay is perfect. It might just depend on what you’re used to but H2 is my favorite game of all time. I joke with my friends and tell them, “when I die, just make sure there’s a copy of Halo 2 in my casket.”

Best game and best times ever.

Halo CE’s speed ranged from moderate to fast-paced. I find H2 and H3 to be much slower, especially H3.

Even ignoring the +10% buffs given to it in competitive settings, Halo 4, and so on, it’s still much, much faster than walking in CoD, Battlefield, etc. I’d even go so far as to say I walk as fast in Ce as I sprint in some other games.

He’s saying CE had faster kill-times.

CE is absolutely faster than any other Halo game.

Halo is Very Fast Paced I have played other mainstream FPS games and halo is fast paced because when you are in a fight you are in the fight for longer, not to mention the maps are generally free from clutter and are quite spacious this leads to seeing your enemy quicker and the fight taking place quicker…

Halo is not slow paced at all.
Maybe in tournaments its slow but it is still fun to watch

The only halo that seems slow to me is Halo 3

Undoubtedly. After playing titanfall and even battlefield 4 (Though Battlefield would be considerably more boring if you couldn’t choose your spawn point), I can’t bear playing Halo. Spawning on one side of the map as far from the fighting as I can get isn’t fun; I like being able to spawn where I choose and get to a suitable location as quick as possible.

I’m liking the fast-paced way the games are going.

Halo CE isn’t as slow as it seems. but that’s mostly because of the insanely imbalanced guns and grenade spam. Barely have to move before you’re sent sky high. the big maps though, terribly slow.

Halo 2, is arguably slower. The big maps again, super slow.

With Halo 3 being the slowest. I call Halo 3 Halo-dominos. most matches devolve into a ludicrously slow kill chain. Guy 1 kills guy 0, guy 2 kills guy 1, guy 3 kills guy 2. so on and so on. But the big maps see a very big change in map pacing as weapons work better in Halo 3 overall.

yes. yes it is.

Maybe they feel slower to you, but like I said, they are objectively faster. Well, CE and 2 at least, 3 is a different story…

I wanted to write it, but you did. This distinction is crucial for this thread.

Short answer: yes

Long answer: yeeees

Objectively as in base movement speed?

I would imagine that traversing the map Coagulation from one side to the other would qualify as cardiovascular exercise, because jogging at that pace would elevate your heart rate and it takes 20 minutes to cross.

Jokes aside, yes, classic Halo is pretty slow. Especially outside of combat in BTB.

At it’s core (classic) halo isn’t a fast paced shooter, as it’s TTK creates slower more tactical gameplay.

Just like anything else, it’s not the game, it’s the map, if the map’s too big, of course it’ll be sluggish.

As in, objectively faster paced in general. CE in particular is faster due to simplistic, but efficient map design, coherent physics, balanced sandbox, smooth progression, fast engagement rates, and high FOV. There are likely several other factors that make it faster than the newer Halo’s, but I’m not the expert on it.

CE is very fast. H2 depends on the maps. Warlock and Midship are very fast, while Lockout can be slow due to late game standoffs. H3 depends on the maps as well.

I believe it. When I play the MCC, Halo 4 feels faster than Halo 3 to me, yet I rarely ever use sprint, and I’m pretty sure these games have the same base movement speed, or close enough.

When I play all the games in the MCC, 1 and 2 feel too slow for me. Base movement feels right in 3 and 4 almost feels a tad on the fast side when everyone is sprinting around on Haven. That said, 3 absolutely gets tiring slowly trudging from one side of Last Resort to the other. I think Halo has always been more of a slow game as far as movement, but a fast one when it comes to every other mechanic. In that sense, it is balanced. That is why I’ve always loved it. That said, highly fast paced games where you have to make increasingly high numbers of tactical decisions every second are gaining in popularity because they are intense. I think Halo 5’s SA help with this.
