FOMO and Weekly Ultimate Challenges

Right now, I think the weekly Ultimate Challenges are the worst example of FOMO in Infinite. The Fractures are one thing, we know we get a week every month to progress towards them and that gives us some breathing room. But the Ultimate Challenges are something that seems geared towards forcing players into several hours of gametime every week, or you miss your one chance at them.

Has 343 made any statement on whether or not you will get multiple chances at these cosmetics? Is there a way to alleviate the FOMO to an extent, such as making the Ultimate challenge something that progresses separately from the other weeklies, so that you can progress towards them right away at the start of each week? Or even better, why not create a seasonal challenges tab similar to MCCs, where all the Ultimate Challenges can be progressed at any time throughout a season (and can be made significantly more grindy if they want, given the large amount of time you have to work on them).

Honestly, it would be even better if any and all cosmetics added to the game have no expiry date whatsoever. Idk about you guys but I’m really, really sick of Daily, Weekly, and Seasonal limitations on when you can unlock gear in video games. It basically forces any completionist to stick to no more than one or two games. As you just won’t have time to play anything else. I already play Destiny and have ignored stuff I’ll likely lose forever over Halo. I don’t want it to be the same for Halo when I play Breath of the Wild’s sequel, or the upcoming Pokemon Arceus game. Heck I’ve felt FOMO over the anniversary items in MCC and have been grinding there weekly to make sure I get everything out of the Exchange before it disappears forever.

These need addressing. And we need to know there are ways to get other chances at these cosmetics other than emptying your wallet. I’m totally happy with the knowledge the Season Passes will stick around forever, but what about Ultimate Challenge rewards? What about Fracture FOMO?

There’s a fine line between eliminating FOMO and still giving players regular rewards and incentives to play.

Consistent population is far more valuable than anything else in maintaining a healthy online multiplayer game.

I’d rather have regular events to enjoy if it means sometimes I will miss events. It’s just how it is. Most of the unlocks are tat, you will never use.
