Focus Less on Customization

I know people are wanting more and more customization, but right now it’s too the point that there’s actually very few good armor choices, and the rest is crap.

I would like it if we could remember we are Spartans, not fashion models. It’s hard to recognize some multiplayer models now really.

I think the whole thing should be dialed back just a bit and 343i should focus on giving us a small set of maybe 16-18 quality armor pieces for the head, chest, and shoulders.

I know a lot of people are going to get in an uproar about this because they like their rainbows and cameras that look like missile launchers on the side of their faces, but the armor does need a new direction. Most of the time we’re just red and blue, and that doesn’t really look good on these way out whacky armor pieces that some people use.

I also miss how a piece of armor symbolized a completed objective rather than how much time I’ve spent boosting. It really added life to the multiplayer.

Well, there’s my opinion, it’d be nice to hear what you guys have to say.

I completely disagree. I like my character to stand out, and actually it makes me feel more connected to my spartan and to the game as a whole.

In halo 4, I would like a new approach with armor. It seems as though all the armor recieved at high ranks was considered the best, and at low ranks was the worst. Many people used that to chose their armor instead of chosing what looked best. So we end up with millions of armor combinations but many choose the same few. IE Security head, chest, shoulders, etc.

Customization is great.

Well not all of us boosted to get our credits…so yeah, don’t know what to say about that. Except as soon as I can buy a certain piece and sport it I do. I’m proud that I was able to get that piece through legitmate play and time invested.

I do wish that there was actual function in the game with some of the pieces. For instance having additional armor in certain places actually gave you additional protection in that area; or if you have a utility piece that carries extra ammon than you should have additional clips added. Something like that I would be in support of.

For me it feels like cheap competition for meaningless currency. I also sort of miss when hit boxes made sense.

You have a very good point about the armor in rank progression, it makes you see tons of Security shoulders and Jorge chest plates. I don’t want it all unlocked at the same time either, that gives you nothing to work for. I think armor should be unlocked by completing tasks if varying difficulty.

I disagree with you. I am pro customization.
VIVA LA REVOLUTION!

> Customization is great.

To a point.

I want more customization, but also more armor that we can acquire by getting certain achievements or completing certain challenges, not just “Get this much EXP or credits and the armor is yours.”.

I actually hope there’s a lot of armor permutations AS LONG AS IT LOOKS LIKE HALO though, because Reach’s armor just felt weird. It would look normal on the bottom, but then people would buy huge bulky chest pieces and try to make themselves look like a friggin human tank. Halo 3 armor perms looked really nice though, so I hope we see some more armor like that.

tl;dr I hope the armor isn’t bulky and awkward-looking.

Customization is lame. Focus on the actual gameplay instead of how your damn character looks.

^i was just about to say that.

Customization helps people with stuff like Machinima and screenshots, plus some people just want to look plain BA when they mow their way through a crowd of enemies.

I just hope that they keep customization out of campaign. I loved it in Reach because we were our own Spartan, but here we are the Master Chief, so let us look like him.

For online, I love customization,m just don’t let your armor modify gameplay. For stat stuff stick to equipment or AAs, or make something new.

Well, I think for campaign with the Chief that kind of goes without saying…

I agree i would much rather 343i work on gameplay, insted of making some armor to dress my spartan with.

I just want the permutations to actually do something, like their descriptions say.

Actually I would rather have the focus more on armor customization. I don’t see why you have a problem with alot of it.

I love armor customization. It would be great if there is more in Halo 4.

I find that any level of added customization is good for a game. If I was playing Halo 4 multiplayer and I had a perk that was say “Dropshield” where I could use a dropshield once per life, I would be fine with that. Or a “Biofoam” perk where I could restore my health once per life. Not all ideas are bad to take a spin on. “Adrenaline Boost” which could let you sprint temporarily and gain a small boost to jump height.

I’m just saying that if a full set of Recon armor gave +5 % to shields and made the ID tag not appear when targeted, that would be as cool as say a full Grenadier set reducing explosive damage by 25%. Maybe a Pilot set would receive a small armor boost while in vehicles and be able to drive them slightly quicker. ODSTs don’t receive fall damage and can use VSR. Just some cool stuff to add to armor permutations, little details that really make each character unique and useful to his team.

It was not meant in an insulting manner; I merely wanted to point out that if armor permutations give a benefit to gameplay that it would be almost the same thing as selecting a perk. Players would pick armor pieces based off the bonus it would give and not the way it would look. I apologize if you were offended.
