a cryptum is basically a stasis chamber - so why is this one flying around, scanning things?
What makes you think that thing is a Cryptum?
its a cryptum as it states in concept art (its a title on a concept art piece, but i have no linky), but I think its scanning to see if its safe to let the forerunner inside out cus it wouldn’t want to let the person inside out when its not safe would it…

the internet.
apparently some official source had a picture of the sphere up, named “cryptum” and it’s been called that ever since. i haven’t seen said picture or verfied the source tough and as this thread shows: i’m sceptical.

i can see why it would be able to scan it’s surrounding for threats, but why would a hi-tech bed fly around, especially towards a threat (the crashed infinity)?
maybe it wants to examine the threat, to see if the flood have got into reqriem or maybe its like a control centre for the A.I

The Microsoft press release website hosts all the files associated with Halo 4’s E3 2012 showing. It’s a cryptum.
Not going to lie, the flying orange ball really seemed out of place. like some goofy thing from forge some how made it into the real world.

but that is not it’s purpose. it’s a bed. if the occupant is to be woken up, the cryptum has to be opened IIRC, then the body needs to be rehydrated and stuff… so it’s kinda impossible (ATM) that the occupant controls Requiem from inside the Cryptum.
(i probably should read that part of cryptum again, but i’m too lazy and will wait for someone else to point out mistakes in the description above)
regarding the design: i like it better than the cephs.
In the book Cryptum, only a Forerunner could open Didact’s Cryptum. So, I don’t understand how his is flying around.

I think it was either scanning Chief, or the Infinity. Probably the Infinity, considering that it sped off towards it when it finished.
Here you see John-117 engage the Cryptum:

That is the exact reason. It can only be activated by a Forerunner. So it is searching for a Forerunner among the intruders. Or a Reclaimer.
