Flood's purpose on War Games

Ever since 343i released the fact that multiplayer would be canon, I wondered how Flood would be canon. Here is my opinion as to how it would fit.

The Flood were first officially encountered by the personnel of the the Pillar of Autumn in 2552. All survivors were to keep the Floods existence classified to not scare or lower the moral of the human populace. The Flood is a parasitic life form of which takes hosts body as a form of substance and travel. The subject is thought to lose all form of life and the host literally because a dead husk, a vehicle for the new parasite. Only one account has proven otherwise. As far as I know Pvt. Jenkins of the P.O.A. is the only member to have retained partial control of his body while infected.

This is where the purpose of Flood in Halo 4 War Games comes into play. O.N.I might have received information of Jenkins or might have merely pondered, Is the host truly absent from the body once infected? This speculation might have droven the spooks to begin experimentation with said Flood forms. Now after all this, they might have realized the only way to be “immune” to the Flood was through body augmentations, ORION-Spartan III projects. The Spartan IV project was barely under way and thus also indirectly supporting the S-IV project, a bulk of the military should be Spartans and “immune” to Flood forms, thus why the majority of the Infinity’s First Strike Teams are Spartans.

If the Infinity did in fact locate another Installation ring, and indeed did find Flood forms upon said ring, the first feet on the ground would be the Spartan IVs.

Now, the purpose of Flood in War Games is to prepare the new Spartans of such psychological horrors as the Flood. The reasons for which we can play as actual Flood supports my theory that O.N.I. was experimenting with Flood on people, and somewhere along the line managed to have a human/flood person that had limited control of the parasite. Of course the hybrid could only be grown under controlled circumstances which would not apply on the battlefield but, ahving the new Spartans act and fight as Flood can mean they are gradually preparing for the worst.

If a Spartan were to be infected by a Flood form, their experience as Flood combat forms would theoretically transcend at a minimal degree, and hopefully the Spartans would have a small degree of control, if any, of their bodies if they were to be infected.

TLDR: Flood in War Games is meant to prepare Spartans to fight Flood and by chance, prepare to control an infected self.

Just random speculation have a nice day

I like this theory.

The animated comic of Halo: Mona Lisa has already shown that ONI was already experimenting with the flood on both humans and elites. They got test results first hand, and more than likely the Infinity has test simulations based off of these (and perhaps other) results (as the flood in the Infinity simulations seemed to differ from the actual combat forms of the real flood).

Or perhaps these simulation flood could be based off of what ONI has developed over the years. For all we know, the Infinity simulations may not be just to train spartans to deal with the flood, but also to see who (or what) would be better suited for the job as a soldier. We may see “flood soldiers” in the near future thanks to ONI.

In any case, it’s best to keep an eye and ear out for ONI, especially if we hear “research and development” in the label.

I had completely forgotten Mona Lisa, idk if it is canon or not, if it is then it highly supports my theory.

O.N.I. keeps me up at night

Installation 03 and 05 are the ones currently found and have human presence on them.

To let the flood on board infinity like that would be a really bad idea. The flood would have probably escaped during the attack on the infinity as well.
More like training in case the flood returns if you ask me.

That is exactly what I said, War Games is meant to train Spartans for Flood encounters but O.N.I. may have experimented with them before the Infinity was finished
