Q: Will the Flood be playable?
A: No. The Flood are an AI-controlled adversary in Halo Wars 2: Awakening the Nightmare and will not be a playable faction.
I feel like it’d be a waste to add the assets and units of the flood but not make them playable. It’s something myself and a good part of the community has been hoping for since their appearance in HW1. I am fairly certain 343 would be missing a huge opportunity to let players actually control the flood via a Gravemind for the first time in Halo history… unless you count flood mode and pretend you are assuming direct control. Please 343, don’t pass this up!

It would take a lot of time to rebalance a new faction with new leader powers, units, counter-units, etc. It’s not worth the time and man power especially since the game hasn’t sold that great.
I guess it’s just too hard to balance the flood, and they also don’t want to shed the extra dollar for the extra assets(leader/units voices, etc.) needed to make the flood a controllable faction

They could always show their player base that they listen and care.

They’ve done that with the Banished campaing and bringing back the Flood. Honestly aside from the desing to make them playable, the entire point of the Flood is that they infect, I can only imagine how broken would be the game with them as faction.

Have to agree. This is a missed opportunity, the models look and move like everything I’ve dreamed of since the first game. Such a shame we won’t be able to use them, really I would have payed $60 not kidding.

That is a cop out. It isn’t being turned into a faction for finantial reasons, I can be sure of that, as hard as it is to balance I’m certain the devs would be delighted to make a new faction, it’s just not their call this time around.

At the end of the day they make games to make money. The small player base that does play the game barely buys Blitz packs and complains about the DLC that they do offer. Soooo

That’s some context gymnastics to avoid the point that there wasn’t going to new playable factions. The reply was given right to the question of playable flood/prometheans.
Making the flood playable undermines their whole theme and just turns them into a zerg reskin.
There are still balance issues for UNSC and Banished, the flood will be a real developmental mess. Like the biggest problem is, what are their ground vehicles gonna be.
If you think about it yes, you got technology for the flood from feral (1)- infection (2)- pure (3) stage for tech levels; enough buildings, turrets, main bases; then you have two resources like biomass (supply) and neural mass or whatever (energy) , infantry, air, but no ground, and the only real leader power they could have is the dreaded flood cloud.
Sorry but the flood lack ground vehicles to make them a complete faction.
Forerunner has the same problem with their Builder and Promethean caste units, no ground vehicles. Sure Knights could be anti-vehicle, Phaeton as heavy air (not as heavy as Vulture), Warden or Didact as hero/ leader, watchers function like engineers, sentinels as core air, mini-guardian as super unit, soldier crawler squads for main infantry, soldier specialists with binary rifles as anti- infantry, Composer for leader power.
Point is you need actual ground vehicles of some sort to make a fully balanced playable faction. Why you think in Halo 5 they have Promethean Soldiers driving Warthogs and Mantis’ for warzone variants to bolster ground for Prometheans.

You know that any unit can be classified as anything. It’d be easy to implement “vehicle” units for the flood. Depending on function and role, it’d be some flood form which look suitable for its role.
For instance, the Trasher from HW one coulf easily have been classified as a vehicle.
As for powers, flood does use drop pods, in halo 3 called “dispersal pods”, which could be used to drop in reinforcement.
Then you have the possability of healing a healing power.
A slow down area of effect, organic flood stuff rapidly growing up on the ground and slows units down.
Massive tentacles emerging to damage and/or hold units.
AoE veterancy. Either a passive where units close to each other give a veterancy gain buff to each other, or an activated aoe where you increase units’ veterancy.
Spore cloud which would reduce LoS.
Unit mines, drop down a mine and garrison units into it. Once it’s activated the units spring out after the initial explosion to attack stuff.

they need equivalents to vehicles not vehicles. Which if you think of it they already have
Because the campaign has not come out yet, we don’t know for sure. I do think though that they will. Now this is because when the precursors acsendently let the flood loose, they knew worlds would fall because the flood were ment to be a intelligent species. How would you think they found out to get on a starship? What about driving it? Because the flood is intelligent, and has a lot of patential, I do think they will be playable, but only towards the end.
I really don’t get why 343i don’t just make a Flood playable faction…literally don’t need to add anymore Covenant/UNSC style factions, yet we still keep getting them instead of one of the most requested features.
