Hey guys, long time Halo player here needing advice on getting better in Flood which I’ve previously avoided like the plague (eh? eh?). Fairly decent player elsewhere but Flood is impossible for me for whatever reason.
The things I’m struggling with are:
• Avoiding the thruster pack zombie.
• Hitting anything with the shotgun
• Killing anything but walls and floors
Any hints or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t use that armor ability at all so complete noob.
My advice is stay with the group and team shoot. Or take a buddy and hide as well as your bright-yellow self can. The reason you take a friend to a good hiding spot is you don’t want to be last man with that icon on your head.

The strategy depends on which map you are playing on. Also, i stick with camo when i am human. Camo is messed up with the flood, as you can still see them because they fart spores everywhere.
If you wish, you can add me and we can have some flood matches tonight, so i can show you the strategies on every map. Or i can just make a long list of how to be good on a flood match.

My advice: Run, or hide from the Flood!
Run away from the Flood if you are a good distance away from them, or take them head-on. Remember that it’s highly unlikely for you to survive against a huge horde of multiple Flood, so in that scenario it might be a better choice to run away. Or you can kill as many as you can but/before you die.
Hiding from the Flood is also a good option. If you crouch, or refrain from moving, you will stay off the motion trackers of your opponents. Don’t try to hide if you’re the Last Man Standing though because you’ve got a huge Waypoint over your head. Active Camo may also help you with hiding.
Eliminate the Flood before it eliminates you. At considerably long ranges, take Flood down with a Magnum. At close-ranges, take them down with a Shotgun. Almost always press the melee button straight after pressing the Shotgun button, as sometimes the melee will finish off a weakened Flood that survived the Shotgun blast.
Also, roll with your teammates. It may help.

Time your Shotgun shots right. Play a lot of Flood, practice, and/or play Customs with friends and eventually you will get the hang of it. Don’t use the Shotgun as a sniper, use it at very close-ranges such as a few centimetres beyond melee range. Find the controller scheme and sensitivity that works for you. You might want a high sensitivity, as being able to turn around quickly is vital in Flood.
Hardlight Shield is usually worthless, I don’t recommend using it. Promethean Vision will just help you spot Flood easily. Active Camo is in my opinion, the best armor ability to choose. Active Camo will scramble your enemies’ motion trackers, cloak you in near-invisibility, and also weaken the power of the Floods’ ridiculous sword lunge.

Hide and hope nobody finds you, then when they find you shoot at them until they kill you. The odds of surviving Flood are slim to none, they’re OP and the playlist is just as poorly done as it was in Reach.
