Flood Outbreak

I don’t know if anyone else has had this idea or something like it, and if so, tell me. But I’m pretty sure this idea is brand new.

Flood: Outbreak - A new game mode utilizing the capabilities of Halo Infinite’s new engine, as well as the power of the Xbox Series X.
A team of 18 players is stationed in a UNSC base, and the Flood have been unleashed nearby. They are rapidly infecting, and your goal is to keep them from reaching the center of the UNSC Base. Players are given vehicles, turrets, heavy weapons, equipment, power-ups, anything they need to stop the incoming hoard if infected.

The Flood AI arrive in waves. Your goal is to keep them at bay. There are a total of 5 waves, each getting more difficult. Wave 1 will consist of Infection Pods, Combat forms of infected Banished and UNSC, and Carrier forms. Wave 2 will then include more concentrated attacks of the same forms, as well as the occasional Pure form. Wave 3 will be lead by the Pure forms, like the ones from Halo 3 (Tank, Ranged, Spider forms), surrounded by the pods and infected. Wave 4 will be highly concentrated, with the occasional giant Pure forms like the Juggernaught and the Abomination. Wave 5 will have infected vehicles, and a high amount of all Flood forms. Also, as waves continue, the Flood will “discover” new entrances into the base. They will act more strategically, rather than wildly.

When a player dies, their “intelligence” is transferred to a Flood form. Kind of like Star Wars BF2, when a player dies, they can choose a type of Flood form. Instead of Assault, Heavy, Officer, and Specialist, you choose Carrier, Combat, or Pod. As the waves progress, players can choose higher tier Flood forms, going from Carrier, Combat, or Pod, to Tank, Ranged, or Spider, to Juggernaught, Abomination, or a new large form. Playing as the Flood in this way would be insanely fun.

A UNSC victory would be if at least one spartan survives, and the core of the base is not infected.
A Flood victory would be if all spartans are killed, or the core of the base is infected.
(I personally see the “core” of the UNSC base as the controls for the hangar bay that, if it gets infected, will let the Flood fly away to other systems in the galaxy.)

Leave comments on whether or not this is a good idea, and how it can be improved. I personally don’t see this becoming a reality in Infinite, but if it does, then heck yeah.

Sounds like it could be a lot of fun, one potential problem I see is people getting infected on purpose to play as the flood.

I’m with you on this one, sounds like an Infection/Firefight hybrid. I would prefer to keep them separate in that if you die in the Firefight Flood mode, then that’s it.

Still, a Flood Firefight mode is something that is way overdue.

A good way to prevent that is to do a Resident Evil style death, where if you get infected, your body becomes a Spartan Flood but you cannot control your actions, you simply spectate.

This sounds amazing. I would love to see a straight Firefight mode where it’s just endless too.

One thing that i’d love to see is a five-wave breach-and-clear Flood Outbreak mode. There are a few different map environments that can be played on, and you start by dropping in via drop pods or pelican, and clear the first “room” or area. You’ve got a few rounds in that room and one final round with more enemies and a boss. Then you breach into the next area, and it starts again but this time harder. Once you get to the final room, you deal with the Flood proto-gravemind by planting a bomb, then make an escape back to the entrance/pelican. This whole mode would be one life per wave, with a six man team of Spartans. There could be different environments too, like a blizzard-struck mountain top, deep forerunner structure, Zeta Halo Flood infested forest, a UNSC ship in space, etc. This would be absolutely amazing to play, imo.
Team wipe in a wave would result in a loss, followed by a cutscene of the area getting Havok-nuked or something.
