Flood Outbreak at Installation 05?

So, while I was playing Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary yesterday something came to my mind, seeing all of the infected Marines and Elites swarming me at the Library without any sort of strategy despite the high number of infected individuals. Now, even with that many biomass they were only able to get a small Proto-gravemind formed, nothing really impressive seeing how much Covenant and UNSC troops they absorbed, but yet, in Installation 05 the Flood had been rampant for quite some time now (99,779 years according to the 5/30/08 and 6/6/08 Bungie weekly updates, talking about the Cold Storage transmissions) and they had advanced to the point of forming a Gravemind, capturing the installation’s monitor and forcing the sentinels to create a wall around the ring’s library.

Which makes me question, how were the flood able to gain such an enormous amount of biomass without any outside intervention and even then, how were they able to attain that much intelligence? Because the only biomass available at the ring would be local fauna, and I do not think a bunch of animals would grant the Flood enough intelligence to be able to corrupt an Ancilla class AI.

So, enlighten me Waypoint forums cause I cannot seem to understand how the Flood were able to form a Gravemind without any outside intervention.

Well I have a question that depends on my response, was high charity stationed by installation 04 or 05?

Well, as we saw in Cold Storage, they had a Flood Pure Form in containment. Then there were other cylinders behind some glass. Perhaps they simply harvested as may Flood specimens as they could and just built a Gravemind from it. As for the intelligence factors you bring up, it could very well be that once the biomass is large enough, the Gravemind’s consciousness just pops into the body.

It was stationed by Installation 04 at the beginning of Halo 2 and then jumped with its fleet to Installation 05 shortly before Regret died.

Alite thanks, last time I played h2 was when the 360 just came out lol

Anyways, a ship like the one in installation 04 might’ve crashed, leading to liable hosts for infection, thus providing more than enough intelligence for a gravemind.

Could be, although I doubt that in 200 years a civilization had advanced enough to make spaceships (granted that the civilization is from this galaxy). At least with the one in Installation 04, they crashed 60,000 years after the activation of the Halos.

I can’t really explain this well but as long as there is one piece of flood form, every single piece of gravemind inteligance gathered from combat forms can be tranfered to each other, it is not exactly know how but they do,example. a new gravemind could have inteligance from a flood gravemind from the forerunner-flood war, this should help explain Gravemind | Halo Alpha | Fandom And about the biomass part, i actually have no clue how it got that big… but hope this helps.
