Flood 'Last Stand' and 'Hive Mind' Mode

Hello fanbase,

I have just been playing Last Stand, the new variant of Flood, made by the fans… as well as Hive Mind, another variant, also made by the fans… frankly I got to say, this really captures what Flood should become… these new variants really support teamwork and give that leaning-on-the-shoulder comradary between your fellow gamers… as well as that constant fear of being surrounded and infected.

In my long Halo career, I have search high and low for the perfect Flood/Infection mode to which most are camp! camp! camp! Yet in this dim tunnel, called Halo 4, a light had appeared… Hive Mind and now Last Stand… I must digress the original intended Flood mode was a little abrupt and quite frankly of the beaten path of even a genuine Infection match… it had given the Flood armor abilities, a super lunging distance and health… to which had become a hazard to play, rather than an enjoyable experience… yet with time 343 Industries and fans changed and developed the new, more adequate versions… to which I believe are the future.

I must congratulate both parties on developing such a great, new match for Halo.

I will say this though… the map rotation needs a rework! It is only using two canvases… Impact and Erosion for both Hive Mind and Last Stand maps. I know there are other maps… not requiring downloadable content… so can we please have someone overlook the alternatives as well?

I appreciate your help. And commitment to the fanbase.

Yes finally someone who agrees with me. I am so sick of Infection gametypes always being about camping to survive. Also I’m glad you don’t feel like your at a big disadvantage whenever you spawn as a flood. The original Flood gametype was crap.

I dont see the teamwork in players rushing the saw in hivemind and camping tilk thry are last man standing

There is a difference between game-breaking camping… and just semi-camping, or locking down a position with team mates.

Power weapons are meant to be fought over because it means more kills and points, so you are represented as the potential MVP of the match…

However the original Flood, and even Infection modes, had camping in spots that either have one entrance (Halo: Reach, Sword Base, Grav Lift) or find “hack” spots that were not designed for the gameplay (Halo: Reach, Boardwalk, Bottom building roof). This was the solo lone-wolf “camping” that I am refering to…

Anyone can call anything camping, from some else point of view… but generally some players are either locking down a strategic position, for either a weapon, power up, armor ability or objective… or just passing through and happen to look like their camping. There is a difference between camping and holding a strategic location for your team.

If I recall, the lift room had two entrances, and almost guaranteed death. The only broken spot in reach was the tower on pinnacle, and even that could be beat with good enough zombies.

Ventilation grav lift on the ground floor… actually there was plenty broken locations in Reach… but it is the legacy of what Flood can become…

That was still pretty much a death trap if the zombies knew what they were doing. And yeah, I missed a couple. Boardwalk flagpole comes to mind. Despite any of that, however, Flood (Default Gametype) still is far worse in H4. The lunge and Thruster Pack are just OP, and the Humans have no chance.

That’s why I start raging when I play Flood.

Agreed. That is why I myslef find Hivemind and Last Stand as great solutions to the problems…

Hivemind… free roaming Flood mode, that requires teamwork due to only being able to win via time.

Last Stand… holding out Flood mode, that requires teamwork and only way to win is to be the best defender.

I hate players using exploits like you mentioned -

Boardwalk - flagpole and down on the bottom (although once I found out about that one, I could defeat all but the best)
Complex has a couple.
The flood specific maps have a couple I have seen.

I haven’t played this new version yet, but I am hopeful jump disable will stop that mess.

Using Red Lift (Sword) or the cooling tower on Complex to me is OK. Hiding or picking a single-entrance spot seems to be a more ‘normal’ zombie strategy than “I’m going to rush to the top of Haven and spam the trigger, so I can get the most kills and win!” I think hiding should be rewarded - including a small bonus for being ‘next to last man standing.’
