> Just because they weren’t fun in past games (which I thought they were), that doesn’t mean that they won’t be this time around. The Flood are very adaptable and can come in many different forms. What we’ve seen of them before is but a small fraction of the Flood as a whole.
In H1, it was fun to run away from them. Assembling huge masses of them or making Flood buddies was also entertaining. Fighting them was ok due to how every weapon could kill.
And of course, the spooky atmosphere and gurgles. In H3, all we hear is screeching. I miss the Flood gurgles.
Rocket launcher Flood weren’t as bad as they were in H2 (homing rocket launchers). People get pwned by the rocket launcher Flood during the tunnel part on Two Betrayals because being in the Banshee gives away their position. If you go on foot with a shotty or pistol, rocket launcher, and grenades, that part isn’t so difficult.
In H2, not so fun. Fighting them was out of the question. Running away from them was terrifying. The fear factor was alright, but it was really false difficulty.
In H3, messing with them is indeed entertaining. But fighting them gets boring since they’re so easily destroyed. And there’s nothing scary about them (aside from flying Tank Forms and super jumping Carrier Forms).
If Halo 4 has Flood, I’d like to see:
-fast Flood, but not as fast as they were in H2
-fast Carrier Forms. They’re so pathetic now
-revamped Tank Form. They’re just damage sponges. I always used the brute shot’s blade or sword against them because shooting them was worthless. Tank Forms should be known for their use of tactics. I say this because of an event I witnessed (here’s the film). There are 2 Tank Forms on the 2nd bridge on The Covenant and one of them launches the other one across the bridge and he miraculously ends up landing on a Brute bodyguard, after which he regurgitates Infection Forms then engages the Chieftain in battle. Of course, it was very flawed: the Tank Form didn’t prioritize on the bodyguards by meleeing them first so the infection forms were pointless because the bodyguards still had their power armor
-more Pure Forms. There were 3 cut out ones and I would have liked to see them
-stealthy Flood. That’s the #1 problem with Flood. They just aren’t stealthy. Ambushes are often scripted or easy to anticipate or avoid. Which brings me to my next suggestion.
Half Flood.
- Flood can choose to infect
- it is possible for an infected to retain consciousness (Jenkins) if he’s not killed by the Flood
So how about Flood using sleeper agents? How interesting it would be for a marine to suddenly go berserk and start shooting the other marines and at the same time, Flood descending upon the marines. Floodgate was the perfect opportunity for this but instead, all we got was slow infections and marines starting to show signs of infection for no reason. The Flood infection forms jumping on that 1 marine. That was kick–Yoink- at the time of release but now it’s just decoration.
