In the new colony launch trailer many people noticed a sound at the end of the video is from the 343 Guilty Spark mission from Halo CE. Do you think it could refer to a Flood DLC leader or a Montior DLC leader? Or just simply a sound they put in for 343 Industries?

That’s really interesting! I’d guess a monitor is the more likely candidate, as a flood enemy would require a complete rework of the factions. But I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw either a hacked monitor aiding the banished or a normal one with the UNSC.
I’d be really surprised if they added a significantly different leader to the game, it’d definitely be great though.
Was that sound unique to Halo CE’s 343 Guilty Spark mission? If so there has to be a reason for it being added, they wouldn’t put it in otherwise.
Good catch! Yeah, it’s a dead ringer for the soundtrack/sound effect.
I do hope Flood get introduced as a playable faction. They were highly requested for Halo Wars 1, and the devs have been kinda hinting at something involving them.
P.S. To the inevitable people that will come in to deny the possibility of the Flood returning; no, the Flood weren’t wiped out in Halo 3. They’re an extra-galactic threat, meaning they come from outside our galaxy. To think ALL the Flood in existence were on the Ark during the firing of the new ring is really naive. Plus, the rings were never for destroying the Flood, but actually for denying them “food”. Also, 343 keep putting references to the Flood still existing in their games and media (like the flavor text for some Halo 5 customizations).
Sorry, I’m just really tired of people thinking the Flood are gone for good.

Not only are they not gone, they are on the Spirit of Fire! Taken from Halo: Escalation

Yes it is from that specific mission. So there must be a reason for it.
The ark and the rings were designed to hold specimens of all species including the flood. That’s the whole reason its called the ark its supposed to protect them from the rings wiping out all life. The rings may have dealt with all flood that was contained. But any specimens contained on the installations are still there.
they could be released on accident just like in halo 1 through a explosion caused by the war on the surface or systems failure or even a stray bullet.
Maybe if they played this instead. I’d be a little more convinced.

I remember playing the first Flood mission in Halo CE and being like “nopenopenopenopenopenopenope” while spamming bullets and running backwards. The Library was even worse ( rocket Flood are worse than Beam Rifle Jackals) That song would definitely be the best way to signal the Flood coming back.

Pretty cool, I’m trying not to get my hopes up but potentially getting a entirely new faction is a extremely exciting concept for me.

Well, another comic/graphic novel set after that in Tales from Slipspace shows that they killed them off. (Or at least, that’s what the crew thinks. I doubt Jerome got all of them, and Serena was entering rampancy, and thus was not very focused.) It’s a good read, too, and explains exactly what happened to Serena before HW2.

That’d be a bit too obvious, though, wouldn’t it?

Those are gone too… Douglas killed them on Tales of Slipspace.
My guess is that if this means something, it would likely be a Monitor, after all there are two canon posibilites for that: Static, who took Gamma Halo for reparations, and Penitent, who was held prisioner by the Gravemind.
I really doubt we see an all new faction this early, they got a lot of problems with the leaders for existing factions

As opposed to something too obscure? A clip of a bird call from the ambient track of a campaign mission. For all we know that could be them hinting at a Moa leader. I want to peck people to death with a bird swarm. I do believe that same call was used in track for reach as well?
Wasn’t Colony’s tease pretty obvious as well? I think people are grasping at straws with this one, and are going to end up disappointed.
You have to remember this game is being made by Creative Assembly. If you look at what they are doing with Warhammer, they are quite prepared to delay extra factions so they can sell more games to you. I would not be surprised if they wait until Halo Wars 3. That PC gamer video really opened my eyes to how involved CA were and how much strength they had over decisions including story. This makes me pretty convinced the Banished aren’t showing up in the main campaign and we aren’t going to Ark. 343 has basically given CA the Ark as a sandbox to do their own thing.
I would be amazed if they added a flood leader like the gravemind, but for now the flood leader remains a mystery :(.
If you just think about why would this very distinct bird call be in the colony launch trailer? They could have used any generic bird call or any noise but why this one?
Let’s just think here, so multiplayer is going to have non-canon leaders, also its been how long since we seen the flood? Years maybe I didn’t count buts its been years. Plus HW2 is being made by creative assembly and isn’t creative assembly like know for making new factions in their games? I mean come on now is it that far fetched that 343 or creative assembly tried to be subtle and tease the flood with a distinct bird call? Well yes I know the next DLC leader is probably banished but what’s after that? I mean seriously flood can literally come back at any time! they could just come from another galaxy since there are entire galaxies consumed by the flood! But in the end, it is a little crazy and desperate of us to think of giant hordes of space zombies from a little bird call. heh, cheep cheep:)
Well it makes sense that there teasing the Flood faction/campaign dlc since it’s one of the most requested features for a faction for Halo Wars, they’ve been quiet about the Flood for a while so it might happen, with the teaser at the end of H5…and with it seemingly directly linking to Halo 6 then I suspect the Halo Wars 2 campaign dlc will directly link to the Flood returning.
I would love a flood faction to be added to the game, I’ve been waiting for it ever since HW1, but it only makes sense for them to add a monitor instead. Sentinels are easy to make and to implement in. I just would much prefer having the flood instead.

Or you could have both…Guilty Spark is still alive, well he could return.

This sound effect seems more indicative of Guilty Spark being a leader, not of a new Flood faction. So, theoretically, that would mean we are getting a Promethean faction, right? Hard to believe that either UNSC or Banished (or Covys) would be following Guilty Spark.
There’s no way this sound effect is accidental. It’s a clue. But perhaps it’s a clue towards the two new campaign levels instead of a new leader?
Also, someone here says Guilty Spark is alive. I thought he died at the end of Halo 3? I seem to remember him being a boss battle, but it’s been a while.
