Flinch questions for those who've played

In a recent sparkcast, 343 confirmed that unscoping is out completely and that a new flinch mechanic is replacing it.

This thread is not to discuss whether this was a good or bad decision. I want the impressions of those who’ve actually played. How severe is this flinch while scoped in? Is it barely noticeable, or did it reasonably hinder your aiming? For anyone who used a sniper rifle, was battling against a DMR or BR user difficult due to flinching? Do you think it will help to balance out long range battles like unscoping, or do you think it will have negative repercussions for gameplay? Any insight from you guys is greatly appreciated.

Anyone?

hmm… it could be good or bad depending how you look at it.

good: we finally dont get shot out of focus

bad: we dont know how bad the flinch is, even if you were unscoped in previous games you still wouldn’t lose accuracy against your opponent.

This flinch talk sounds like fluff. It looks non existent in the videos I’ve seen people scoped in (and that’s with people not having having the mod). They still easily got the kill. It needs to flinch like they said it would, and sway if it’d not going to have an effect on your aim.

Highlighted portion was never a problem.

I can’t believe more people aren’t talking about this, honestly. This new feature fundamentally changes how the game plays drastically yet no one is talking about it.

Anyone who played care to elaborate on this…?

I’m personally happy it’s like that.

The reason why I haven’t been talking about this is because I didn’t know about it. I mean why would they change something that’s been in every Halo that works?

I am also curious to how this mechanic functions and effects gameplay. I hope sombody who has played responds soon.

Lowers the skill gap of sniping even more. Playing against a good sniper? You’ve got no chance.

No idea why they changed it - it was a staple feature of Halo.

Now we have flinch which is random, which I can’t see being a good thing for Halo.

We saw how quickly everyone got bent out of shape with the whole “bloom” ordeal.

It’s not random if it just makes you flinch upwards.

Do you guys just like using those words? Random, skill gap, you use em like buzzwords.
It’s nothing to worry about. That’s already shown through the fact that no one has noticed.

Are you sure it’s just upwards? I was under the impression that it was erratic and all over the place. If it is just upwards than I won’t have too much of a problem with it I guess.

Still would’ve rather had the old system.

Just another way they are making the game even easier.

Just talked to someone who played, apparently it’s not just upwards.

> Well, I didn’t get a lot of recoil when shot at. I only moved fast with the cursor but that was because the person before me had the sensivity on 6, and I’m used to having it on 3. So looking around went a little too fast but I didn’t change it because I was busy having too much fun! xD
>
> But yeah, recoil isn’t that much, but you still go both ways a little when shot at, right, left, up and down. Can’t really say how it is from just 1 match tbh.

This is bad news, this randomness has no place in Halo. Why would they replace such a good mechanic for this BS? It will lead to inconsistencies and griefing. What exactly was the problem with the old system exactly?

It’s called game DEVELOPMENT for a reason. The flinch is pretty big unless you got the armor mod that reduces it. It keeps the gameplay paced up a little more if you ask me. By your logic, everything that was ever good in a Halo game should never be changed, like an AR with 60 bullets and a God pistol.

He is pretty much saying if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Obviously things are going to change during development but they should focus on the things that don’t work and fix them rather than trying to fix the things that do work.

It’s a pointless waste of resources and man power trying to fix problems that don’t exist.

They should instead try to address current problems instead of creating new ones.

This is one of the changes that 343i made that bothers me the most. I like getting de-scoped when sniping. They are changing stuff that is unnecessary. I don’t get why flinching is going to help the game.

yeh totally right

who wants to kill people with AR bullets when spray and melee is so much more fun <_<

No one complained about the god pistol during CE’s time. If anything its kill times would greatly help the game. Just look at the kill times on COD and BF. Damn near instant and both ahead of Halo. Halo CE’s MP was popular for very good reasons, its not just nostalgia.

finally someone who gets it

its a waste of time and totally unnecessary

Hold the phone. Are you serious? I swear that being unscoped when shot was confirmed in…

I can understand that 343i want to make their own mark on the game. I get that.
However, it’s little changes to perfectly fine game mechanics like this one that I simply don’t understand. This will completely transform the way the game is played.

Does anyone have a link to a) the sparkast (preferably with what time this was said) and b) any gameplay footage of this?
