Flawed system in arena MM being exploited

Hello all,

I play halo 5 almost everyday for a few hours at least- so I want to preface my comments by stating this is not a small sample size that will skew data.

People are exploiting a flawed mechanic in the matchmaking arena system and ranking onyx to champion ranks easily while at the same time unfairly detailing the opposing team. They will do this by queuing with a 4 man team, and having one of them purposefully quit out at some point in the game. Usually happens mid game, that way they don’t get overrun with a 4v3 the whole game.

Now you you may just think we’ll its no big deal, if you can’t beat a 4v3 you deserve to lose! Well here’s where you’d be wrong- the majority of the time one of them in the team is a low ranking csr/mmr account paired with onyx/champ accounts so that it will lower the average skill level of the opposing team. Every single time this happens the member who purposefully quits is always unranked and/or a new account(it’s never the champ/onyx guys who quit-because they are trying to boost up without fairly playing enemies of their same skill level). I am guessing it’s one of the people’s alternate accounts Ann’s they rotate every few games with each guy using an alternate “smurf” account to quit.

Now back to 4v3…here’s the problem- if you end up pulling out the W against these (usually) higher skilled players you get a TINY sliver of CSR…I would definitively say that this is about a fifth or more of the amount of CSR you would get in a normal 4v4 game that you win(so in other words, a giant waste of time). If you LOSE- which in my experience happens to my friends & I around 30-40% of the time- you drop DOUBLE CSR (or more) than a typical 4v4 loss.

Meanwhile, you may think that this seems far fetched…that is a lot of effort for them when they only prob win 30% of the games they do this. Well actually it isn’t, because unlike the enemy team that isn’t exploiting, they will lose almost no CSR if they get the L(a tiny sliver) but gain double or more CSR if they get the W!

In summary the teams that use this exploit are ruining matchmaking for everyone else, because everyone who plays them has nothing to gain and double to lose…while the exploiters have double to gain and nothing to lose!!

If if you never run into this it is because only very high ranking accounts do this, so unless your at least in the diamond ranking, you prob won’t run into this. Like I said I never run into it unless I am queuing up with at least a fire team of 3, and with a fire team of 4 it happens even more often. It just ruins your gaming experience when you lose an entire level of CSR after a loss to these guys and get nothing if you manage to beat them(and trust me almost always these wins are SWEATY and are very close).

I hope 343 can attempt to do something about this- it’s strange how this problem only started occurring to me within the last few months when I’ve played the game since release.

Smurfs suck and should be banned imo, good on you for pointing this out. If other people run into this remember to report with a many details as possible

They don’t last, any smurf gets banned and tgis exploit is actively being fought. Those kids won’t be champ or Onyx by season end. Besides, Champion is easy to get, it’s pathetic people boost for a rank they do not deserve. Anybody will see their ranks and be able to tell they aren’t legit. Just play and earn your rank I say. Feels better earning it legitimately.

I have noticed this, I didn’t know that it was an exploit though. It does get very frustrating but at the end of the day I don’t think there’s anything that can be done about it. People will always find a way to manipulate the system.

Ran in similar problem a couple of weeks ago. Hit up slayer 2/4 team againt a gold 20 game 0 win% 2 onyx and a chanp. I was onyx, my friend gold and 2 platinums. Gold quits out at the very start…
We got swept… 30 CSR loss and enemy got a nice 30+ rank boost. Took me below 1600CSR…messages the guys about it and all i got was a reply "lol’. This system needs to be fixed…now

In a way this is an exploit however idk how much will get done about it since its also kinda a form of them handicapping themself (playing down a player the entire game.) Think about how much harder it is to win 3 versus 4 especially in objective games.

Yeah I feel you. If they have a big enough lead though and the three that remain are solid and they’re just dropping the dead weight it seems easy enough to pull off. If that’s what their intentions are in the first place. In objective games it is crazy hard to win a man down. It’s a mixed bag, I just play the game :stuck_out_tongue:

That is easy enough to pull off late in the game, but if it makes you feel any better the system pro rates when they quit so if they leave late it shouldn’t hurt you as bad or help them as much (rank wise) than if they had done it early.

I wasn’t super bent out of shape about it in the first place haha, but yeah that’s good to know man. I appreciate it!
