I’d rather have the flashlight back. It was less powerfull than night vision and IMO that was a good thing. It created a sense of desperation and survival. I also think they should have some kind of really dark level where it actually becomes essential.

i personally like the night vision. while the flashlight did add a certain sense of eerieness for combat evolved it didn’t have much use in two or three for the most part. the one nice thing about the flashlight was being able to spot the active camo when the light reflected off of the opponent using it.
To be honest, I don’t see why we couldn’t have both. Press left on the d-pad to toggle the flashlight on/off, press right to toggle night vision or VISR on/off.

that’s true. like i said the flashlight was good for spotting active camo fields and the earlier version(combat evolved all the way up to halo3:odst) all had flashlights built into the assault rifles so i personally see no reason why we can’t have both. that’s a good idea.
I was more of a fan of VISR than flashlight AND night Vision, although VISR was a tweaked night vision…I’m gonna go play ODST now.

This i would love to have both

Flashlight in H:CE - Great. Lasted very long, didn’t turn itself off unless out of battery.
Flashlight in H2 - Not so great because it kept turning itself off if the game didn’t deem it dark enough.
Flashlight in H3 - Same as H2.
VISR in ODST - Awesome! I loved it! Still, there were occasions why I would have loved a good old-fashioned flashlight in addition to the VISR, not as replacement.
Night vision in Reach - Sucks big time. All it does is tinge the screen in a ghastly green without really making it much easier to see in the dark. There is night-vision gear for everyone available today that’s better quality than what the UNSC issues to it’s soldiers, who happen to be Spartan IIIs no less. Pointless.
flash light gets my vote.

If Halo 4 has any dark, mysterious buildings, and environments, then the torch would create a much creepier atmosphere.
Flashlight!
Kind of depends on the situation. If the night vision was tweaked a little then it could still give you that eerie feel.

Not as much as you’d think. One of the things that makes running around with a flashlight much more eerie than using night vision is that the flashlight illuminates only a comparatively small portion of your field of view. Night vision, on the other hand, basically “illuminates” your complete FoV.
I really like them both. I hope 343 brings them both back

Amen.
I want the flashlight to be usable in multiplayer like in Halo CE, I’m tired of making zombie maps and people complaining its too dark…

Don’t want to bash your idea (I actually like it), but have you considered that if the humans need flashlights to see, so do the zombies? And zombies with flashlights giving away their position? Not really that good, in my opinion. =)
Flashlight. I liked VISR in ODST but I think it should be reserved for ODST style games. Wasn’t a fan of Reach’s night vision.

Oh, Don’t get started about reach night vision, it was horrendous! Plus, in split screen, the night vision barely even works!
Flashlight was very useful in Halo 1, in Halo 2 not so much, but still had its uses, in Halo 3 it was useless.
I prefered it to night vision, the added eariness of it was great.
VISR was the best vision enhancer, in my opinion. Most original, too. I loved how it outlined the buildings and such.
