Flashback Sequences.

I really want in-game sequences that take us back through the chief’s storied history. How dope would it be if you’re fighting a grunt and it throws a plasma, plasma explodes close to you and everything fades into white for a moment, suddenly you’re John, as a teen in his training operation on Reach, surviving. Maybe a sequence that cuts to a portion of a previous Campaign that we directly experienced but just a slice remastered to look fantastic, you’re driving around on the Halo and it cuts to a sequence of you driving on Alpha Halo on The Silent Cartographer weaving a little conversation between chief and Cortana with the narrative of Infinite.

Thoughts?

if overdone it could be jarring. a few spare flashbacks that don’t interupt the gameplay flow could be included.

Agreed , these can feel jarring and heavy handed if done improperly. I get the idea ; and if done sparingly , they can be magic ; the problem is if they rip you out of a mission and throw you into a cut scene , another mission , whatever , It can make it difficult to produce a clear story.

I’m not against the idea , just don’t know if 343 can pull that off.

It should be like after Chief finds a terminal on the Halo old conversations with Cortana plays in his mind. Subtle dialogues should be enough.

I wouldn’t mind a game down the road that is kind of Chief’s Greatest Hits where you play through some highlighted missions. Even if you start in Spartan training and work your way through the war and past.

Honestly, I’ll have to give this a pass. I think it can be a bit intrusive in the story Halo Infinite wants to tell, depending on their length and frequency. Personally, if flashbacks were to be a thing, it should be in moments when Cortana is messing with John’s head, almost like torture. I can’t see John just flat out looking back to his past out of the blue.

Sounds kind of jarring tbh. I’d rather have something like that happen when we come across a terminal instead. I don’t want to just be playing the game like normal and all of a sudden I’m hit with a flashback, it’s what made the Cortana/Gravemind moments in Halo 3 so annoying to me. They’d just happen out of nowhere and take me out of the game.

If they are small kinds of things then sure. I don’t think they should reference things too far in the past, or book material (for the most part), and should instead focus on things that most people are familiar with. By something small and familiar, I mean something like, well going off of your example, chief is temporarily incapacitated. Say he fell out of covenant ship or something. As Chief is coming to hearing the lines “Crazy fool, why do you always jump? One of these days, you’re gonna land on something that’s as stubborn as you are. And I don’t do bits and pieces.” would be fine, and would play well into chief’s sentiments, and the sense of loss. Especially including people like Johnson, Keys, Miranda Keys, Arbiter, and Cortana. Maybe even some enemies like Truth. But full blown cut scenes with a white flash going back to chief being a teen… I think that’s a bit much, and also a bit too unrelated, if I’m honest.

Sort of like the beginning of Gears of war 4,where we get flashbacks from the past until we witness the present in Infinite
