Oh gosh, I’m confused already. But I think that having a Flagnum, with juggle, and with no OHK punch is best. The carriers in 5 are quite powerful, and they are pretty mobile with the thruster pack, so I think a Flagnum is decent defense for a carrier.

I reckon flag punch should do more damage, not one hit seeing as you have a flagnum, but more than a standard flagless one.
While the flagnum does help protect yourself when your teammates don’t seem to understand “protect the flag carrier”, I often find enemy players come in close to melee me. Death is always the outcome for me even after shooting the guy a couple times before hitting him with the flag.
I hate the fact that hitting someone with the flag isn’t a one hit kill anymore, they should really return that feature. Flag carriers do not stand a change against defenders.
Honestly I think Flagnum was the worst decision ever, CTF used to be a TEAM mode where the team was responsible for guiding the flag carrier to safety, but it’s possible to solo flag runs and that makes me sad that a single player can win a TEAM mode… I’d just play slayer if I didn’t want that beautiful CTF teamwork we used to get.
