Flag melees should be one hit kills

The flag always felt so deadly, you have to kill the carrier from a safe distance or be sent into orbit.

I will tell you why.

When you have a flag carrier, your team is out gunned, basically a 3 vs 4 situation. The flag carrier can’t shoot (but in infinite they can throw grenades), and his only choice of defense his CQC with melee. Even if you have one hit kill with the flag, its still relatively hard to get close enough without dying, but make it a 2 hit melee to kill and the carrier is pretty much defenseless compared to an enemy who can shoot.

Add the option in custom games to have it be 2 hit, but keep the Matchmaking to the original one hit kill

The main reason why is because otherwise the flag carrier has no real options for defense. Carrying the flag already slows you down and eliminates your ability to shoot, so if you run into an enemy you pretty much just die. With the increased melee damage you at least had an option for defending yourself if played right.

As said by others, the one hit punch is the carriers only line of defence. Two punching is mostly impossible to pull off so once you’re found you’re essentially dead. The one hit punch gives the carrier an ability to protect themselves and rewards those who play strategically when using the flag. It also plays into the power fantasy of being a spartan and feeling like a capable super soldier when you’re running that thing back to base. If there’s a group of enemies chances are you’ll still get your -Yoink- kicked, but in a 1v1 scenario it gives you a fighting chance, and can be incredibly rewarding. It also means attackers need to be cautious, as the current system essentially rewards attackers for being aggressive.

I will agree I think it should be 1-shot.

But don’t say that’s how it was “originally”, because it certainly was not. It was changed in Halo 3 to be instant kill.

Yep totally agree and have no idea why they didn’t keep this!? Back in the day with the other Halos!

Agreed. It absolutely needs to be one hit kill for flag carrier. As this means, up close, flag carrier always loses. Enemy player can shoot and finish off with melee before flag carrier can get 2 melee hits off. At range flag carrier is at disadvantage anyway, but there is no penalty for enemy players aggressively pushing the flag carrier at close combat as they always have the advantage.

Right? I was running back with the flag once, jumped down on someone and punched them in the head before running off, and I was like “Wait, why am I being shot?” Managed to duck around a corner and survive, but still.

The flag carrier moves slower, has no firearm, and shows up on the entire enemy team’s HUD while sprinting. That’s why it should be a one hit kill

Yeah I agree 100% one hit should be an instant kill.

I’m on board with 1-hit kills with flag melee, as well. The first thing I noticed on CTF was the flag carrier no longer gets a pistol with infinite ammo - or a pistol at all, for that matter. There’s no defense other than grenades? That’s rough!

Should be 1 hit kill, yeah.

I agree because not only are you seen by every enemy you have to walk instead of sprint. You are at a major disadvantage so having a one shot kill wouldn’t be unfair.

Yes flag carrier melee should be 1 hit otherwise attackers have the advantage in every scenario range or CQB please update this otherwise I’ll never carry a flag again.

if this is not updated I would love a dev reason for why this is the way it is currently (2 melee hit kill).
