I’ve been experiencing weird stutters across most of the Halo games after an update awhile ago that lasts a few seconds at the start of games, followed by working normally once its done stuttering.
Halo Reach: Stutters at the start of games on both MP and SP but only sometimes.
Halo CEA: No issues.
Halo 2A: Stutters when switching to new graphics for the first time on levels that contain a Scarab, then stops and works fine. Crashes on Metropolis when playing coop if new graphics are used, repeatable.
Halo 2A MP: Stutters at the start of some games, not others.
Halo 3: Stutters very rarely on some missions at the start, not many for some reason.
Halo 3 MP: Stutters sometimes, not others. Very inconsistent and not map specific like Halo 2A, sometimes rather than stuttering, it takes longer to load instead. Tested on a HDD and an SSD with the same results.
Halo 4: Didn’t stutter at all in coop from what I remember of my last coop playthrough a few weeks ago.
Halo 4 MP: Ditto Halo Reach’s entry for the MP.
These issues are only happening on Halo MCC, I can’t reproduce hardware issues on other games. Here are my specs:
GTX 1080Ti Driver: 461.40
i7-8700K CPU
32GB DDR4
Diagnostics I have tried with no difference in results:
Playing the game on lowest settings
Playing at lowest render resolution possible
Verifying the games files via Steam
Closing most background processes
Moving the game from a HDD to an SSD
Changing the game to Fullscreen mode
Fully reinstalling and cleaning Nvidia Drivers
Reinstalling the Game
Regenerating configuration files
Nothing I try seems to make any difference with how the game is performing, I can’t reproduce the issues in MCC on any other game so I am confident at the very least that the issue is specific to MCC. It came out of nowhere 2 updates ago, it effected only Reach before then. At launch, none of these issues were present, and no changes to my hardware configuration have been made in this time. I suspect it could be a driver issue maybe? I still plan to test 2 more things, but I figured I’d ask here in case anyone had any other ideas.
Planned Diagnostics:
Disable GPU Scheduling (If this yields results, I am not considering this a permanent fix however)
Testing on a different Windows install from an old drive on the same system, this has helped diagnose Windows install specific issues in the past
I can’t find anyone with my specific issue online, I have tried fixes recommended by others with similar but not identical issues with no results. If anyone has any other ideas of things I can test then please let me know!
You could try reinstalling windows
Can you take a video or gif of the stuttering next time it happens?

Yeah I’ll use OBS tomorrow when I’m playing and upload it!
SquattingxBear I forgot to mention that Campaign Missions also take forever to load when the bar has finished progressing (even when moving Halo to an SSD), but here is the stutter I am getting across most of the Halo games. It varies in severity, sometimes it takes upwards of 20 seconds. Worth noting these loading and stuttering issues are only happening on MCC and they go away after each level has initially loaded the problematic graphics. If I continued to play through the mission on new graphics, it would not occur again (but if they were switched to classic for awhile, it might when switching back). This never used to happen so dunno what to think, I’m gonna try some more troubleshooting soon so any suggestions for me to try are appreciated as I’ll try them all at once!

Decided to fresh install early after today, the problem is completely gone. All the same background processes are running on my PC, I installed all the same drivers but the issue is just gone completely! If anyone else has this bizarre issue, that is basically your only option because diagnosing it is borderline impossible, but yeah anyway, me happy now lol

You mean fresh installing MCC? I’m having the exact same issue with Reach and it’s been driving me insane!
It seems to happen to me whenever I click or press something on my mouse or keyboard. This also happens to me when I download halo mcc from the microsoft store and not on steam. The stuttering lag also goes away when I play controller, but I don’t want that. I want to play keyboard and mouse! Every video on youtube doesnt seem to help with my issue. If I wanted to play controller, I’d use my xbox
Update: a fresh installation of MCC and complete removal of Razer Cortex and Synapse resolved my issue!
This has been helpful - I have the same issue as Doriyamo, the input lag of my mouse/keyboard is actually causing the lag and stuttering after I tried the game with an Xbox Pro controller (so it’s not a settings issue with my RTX 3090 in the game menus or NVIDIA Control Panel as others have said).
My keyboard is a Razor Blackwidow Elite in case that’s part of the issues for anyone else.
I will try the fresh install route, as I installed my MCC via the Microsoft Store and report back. Good luck to anyone else facing this issue… it’s pretty game-breaking.

Coming back a little late but I had to literally reinstall Windows, it sucked lol
