It’s too easy to betray you’re allies in Halo. You can do it many times before the exclusion’s option is available. And even there, you just have to kill those wounded by the enemy, that won’t be considerate as a betray. You can even hurts your allies and wait the enemy to finish them. And if you’re very smart, you can push your allies in the void, it will be counted as a suicide.
So why people betray their allies ? The most often, it’s for the special weapons and vehicles. They’re few on the map and it’s always the race to get them first.
Sometimes, it’s the flag carrier who gets betray, because players want score the flag themselves.
Of course, there is the toxic players who betrayal allies for the fun.
As for crashes, they are most often involuntary, because barely a vehicle touches an ally that it loses all his shields !
So, the betray problem isn’t omnipresent in the game, but when it happens, it’s very annoying. Delete entirely the friendly fire would be too much, it’s an important part of the Halo gameplay. However, I think there are a lot of solutions for the betray problem :
1 Instant death for a player who betray an ally
2 Increase the reappearance time for each betrayal (+5 seconds, +10 seconds, +15 seconds …)
3 Reduce the score to -1 for each betrayal
4 Propose the exclusion option sooner
5 Prevent a betrayer to pick up a weapon/flag from his teammate
6 Reduce friendly fire for the vehicles to avoid crash
7 Remove friendly fire for melee attack (a player can’t hit an ally by accident)
8 Reduce friendly fire when players lose their shield (ex : 100% damage against shields, 50% damage against life). A stray bullet that ends us is always annoying.
I also make a betray compilation video to show how it’s easy to betray allies :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4ahVyGp6oU&ab_channel=STiger
Friendly fire always annoys me in co-op campaign. I have completely lost count of how many times I have had to kick and block people for unwarranted friendly fire during my Halo 5 co-op campaign sessions.
Yes it’s annoying in co-op to
I definitely don’t like friendly fire, I know it adds to the “experience”, but I always found it infuriating, especially when I do it on accident and the guy I killed screams the N-word at me like 10 times
Friendly fire should be on its part of ingame strategy
I believe 5 would be the best option. Sometimes accidents do happen in the heat of combat, such as driving a warthog, not seeing where you’re going, and you tap/kill an ally by accident. Or throwing a grenade and an ally decides to rush for some reason. Those shouldn’t be penalized, but the intentional betrayals for weapon/objective/vehicle access should absolutely be isolated and penalized. Not allowing a betrayer or someone who does more than 50% of damage to an ally to access any weapon/objective/vehicle for 5-10 seconds could isolate and cut down on those team killers without affecting the accidental betrayals too negatively

10 second isn’t enough to discourage a betrayer, 1min would be better

Lol, so when I blast with a rocket inside the enemy base to kill the enemy flag carrier and two of his allies together with one of my teammates, why should I get punished when I saved our flag and with preventing the enemy to get one point like for 1 minute? That’s just stupid

It’s a particular situation who don’t appear often, but you right, the sanctions should be reduced when a player betray an ally and kill an ennemy at the same time. However, I think no betrayer should be capable of pick up a weapon/flag from the ally he betray

Lol why? It’s better to get killed as a flag carrier while 2 or 3 enemies are really close and the launcher will kill all of us except the teammate - or do you want your teammate to “support” you in a 2v3 or 2v4 situation with AR/pistol only? Like the chance that he survive is then really low too. So it’s better to get killed like that and your teammate carries the flag closer to your flag point then loosing it entirely.
Also there is no perfect solution. There will always be people who will betray you because you have taken the scorpion, rocket or sniper but there are also many players who will betray you by accident.

Just do what COD does. After a few instances of friendly fire (you don’t have to kill them), any damage you do to friends is reflected back to you, killing you. If you do kill them, 2 betrayals is an instant boot. Increase spawn times per betrayal.

So if I understand well your situation, it’s about a player who kill an ennemie and his teammate flag carrier in one shot (with a rocket for example) ? But why would you kill your teammate flag carrier, you don’t know if he will die or survive against this ennemie, just wait him to die before shooting your rocket.
Of course there isn’t a perfect solution agaisnt betray, but it’s not a reason to don’t try, friendly fire can be improve by many way to avoid betray. As for accident, it’s happens, and sanctions are also here to educate players.

Yeah the damages reflected back to you are a good idea, it’s similar to my proposition 1 about instant death when someone betray, I think your solution would be better for the gameplay, but maybe it’s more difficult to set up in the game, I don’t know.
There are so many solutions to avoid betray and if Halo Infinite don’t use them, after all those years, that would really make me crazy !

Thanks. Other games have practically solved this. Idk why Halo is so far behind the curve.
One other thing I didn’t mention is that this method would prevent shooting a friend an letting an enemy finish them off, because eventually the reflected damage would kick in.

U serious? 3v1, infinite flag is double punch and n not one punch anymore, so you want people to wait and giving the enemy also the opportunity to swarm out

I think it was only for the demo to avoid betray, maybe they will reput on for the launch
This is a tough one, with it being free to play there will be many more casuals and friendly fire will be much more rampant. It seems like 343 just decided to turn it off to avoid all the issues. It should definitely be turned on for competitive games though, and maybe dial up the punishments so you don’t get as many trolls.
