Like many of you I expected heavy aim to be fixed after halo 5. I also hoped the acceleration curves would be changed from halo 5 to more closely reflect MCC modern aiming. But here we are. So below I have a fix. Sorry xbox users, this only works on PC.
Download halo infinite on Steam if you have not already. microsoft store version does not work.
(This is a must) Set your acceleration to 5. Set your look deadzones and threshold to 0. Any other values cause conflict with the alterations we will make.
Head to the properties of halo infinite in your steam library. Select controller. Select use steam input.
If your controller is plugged in, you should see controller configuration right of the area in steam where it says Play or Stop. Click on it. Then click on your right joystick. Then click on advanced settings.
Click on where it says linear. Scroll down to relaxed or wide and select one. I suggest relaxed.
Click on deadzone and change “none” to configuration. I like my aim to feel like h2 so Ive set my inner deadzone to .08 and dragged my outer down to .78 (subject to change). When altering these settings DO NOT change your deadzones in game as it will cause conflict.
For deadzone shape, I have mine set on circle at the moment. If you like classic h1 or classic h2 aiming i suggest changing it to square.
For these settings to activate you must hit back twice then done. Enjoy no longer having spaghetti aim.
Just curious why your experiencing heavy aim. Could be your controller. I know I had issues with a few elite controllers. Best controller out there but I had to switch em out a lot due to aim issues
Its not the controller. It’s the aiming system. Look up halo 5 heavy aim or server based aim. 343 couldnt figure out how to fix it in halo 5. Unfortunately Halo infinite uses the same flawed system which results in polling inconsistencies. How much you are affected depends on your IsP, where you live, and where the players in your game live relative to one another.
The dragging aim isnt a flaw so much as a preference. I dont like the acceleration curves or outer multipliers in this game. I dont think its responsive. Im a big fan of h2 and h3 mcc aiming so the goal was to replicate that by overriding halo with steam.
Also xbox controllers are kinda junk. I still use them but if you want better aim try a ps5 controller. The thumbstick responsiveness and accuracy is miles ahead.
I’ve gotten used to it at this point with 0 deadzones and 0 threshold but I agree the aiming system still just doesn’t feel normal. The game is also significantly harder to aim in if you’re playing on bad hardware (Xbox One, Series S, older PCs) that can’t get consistent 60fps. They should just add a modern aiming option to make the aiming a carbon copy of MCC though. The aiming curve still feels like complete trash compared to every other modern shooter except H5. And before anyone feels the need to bring it up, NO this is not an aim assist issue.
They should add a modern aiming option. However what ive posted in the OP pretty much does exactly that. My goal is always to get it as close to h2 modern as possible. Im not sure why they stuck with this accel curve but it’s pretty bad.
They did fix it tho. All those aiming updates fixed it for a lot of people. All I know is that after those updates and playing with a fresh controller I didn’t have heavy aim ever since. Even in infinite I don’t have it. I’m telling you it’s most likely your controller
This will sound crazy and likely not be your issue, but figured I’d put it here. I’m super sensitive about control “feel” and this game unlike any other felt bad to me. I got my controls similar to yours and it felt tons better. But the heaviness was coming from a system issue. I play with HDR and for whatever reason 10-bit added lag, stutter, etc. I thought everyone had the same issue, until I changed to 8-bit color on my panel and suddenly it was all light as a feather and no stutter. No other game has this issue. I submitted a ticket. There’s def people out there with this issue that will sadly never see this and accept it for what it is, but maybe it’ll help someone.
Are they from Xbox or PC? I’m on pc. It’s one of the only things I don’t have a problem with in this game. My shots don’t register sometimes but it’s a breeze to aim. So easy in fact that I’m playing on bone stock settings. Straight up default. First time I’ve done that and gotten used to it like that
My controller is overclocked to a 1000hz polling rate. I play at a constant 165 hz on a 3070 on low.
The update they had in h5 that supposedly fixed heavy aim was good for about 2 weeks and then quickly reverted to inconsistent polling. Halo 5 and infinite are the only games this issue exists (that im aware of) as it is network based
Well then I feel for you man because every single time I had an aim issue it was always the controllers. For example my Xbox elite 2 controller had bad stick drift. I had to go inside the controller and move something and now it works. I know what you mean that about it only being Halo but I will say that no other game is Halo either. No other game feels exactly like Halo when it comes to aiming. I have had heavy aim before in the early days of Halo 5. I would be playing normally and I would have to snap on someone and then all of a sudden it would slow down like if I had a bag of sand dropped on my aiming arm. Messing with the deadzones did help with this at the time
Ive honestly been pretty lucky with my controllers as far as input. I mean they break a lot but the thumbstick still registers as i expect it to. Though after using a ps5 controller im pretty disappointed at how imprecise the xbox controllers are in comparison
