Fix Flood Mode Please 343i

Flood is good, but needs some serious improvements to be great. Here’s what needs to happen:

1.) Turn off forced colors for humans. Nobody wants to be that putrid green color, we want to show off our custom colors.

2.) Remove Flood thruster pack and give them all sprint. Thruster pack is frustrating and cheap and doesn’t seem very Floodish. It’s not scary, it’s annoying.

3.) Remove Promethean Vision from both sides. Too easy to see each other and isn’t very exciting. Humans can’t hide temporarily.

4.) Let humans pick up more ammo from fallen bodies.

5.) Increase player count to 16. Too few players at the moment in the games.

6.) Increase # of rounds. Games are over way too fast.

7.) Forge some barriers or something onto the maps. They are too bland. Make little hold outs for humans. Even though the Forge selection on these maps is terrible, I’m sure something can be arranged. The map geometry can only get you so far.

Thoughts?

bump, front page is too small

You forgot- Let us set which weapons the Flood use instead of only the claw.

This is my only problem because we cant make majority of the fun gametypes from Reach and Halo 3.

This is very true. I was only addressing matchmaking.

> 2.) Remove Flood thruster pack and give them all sprint. Thruster pack is frustrating and cheap and doesn’t seem very Floodish. It’s not scary, it’s annoying.

-Yoink- no. Thruster-packing flood is the BEST thing to ever happen to infection for the very simple point that it makes zombies aboslutely terrifying! Back in the old days zombies were essentially free multikill medals. They had absolutely nothing going for them save the hope that next round you’ll probably start off on the human side again.

Now being a zombie is a riot (especially when you’ve learned to fly with thrusters :P) and even better humans finally have something to look forward to, substantial combat. It’s infinitely preferable to what we had before and if 343 ever changes this I, for one, will hate them.

> 4.) Let humans pick up more ammo from fallen bodies.

No. Limited amno puts a cap on how much you can abuse any particular weapon. That is if you find yourself in any position where you’ve run out of amno it’s probably because you have A. killed a -Yoink–ton of zombies or B. missed a whole lot. We shouldn’t be helping the player out in either case.

> 5.) Increase player count to 16. Too few players at the moment in the games.

No. Why? Too many guns pointed at too few zombies. Remember as you add players to the game you get proportionally fewer hunters than you get hunted. This means that one side (and the wrong one at that) gets dispoportionately more powerful, which means that you will probably break the game upping the player limit.

> 7.) Forge some barriers or something onto the maps. They are too bland. Make little hold outs for humans. Even though the Forge selection on these maps is terrible, I’m sure something can be arranged. The map geometry can only get you so far.

I’m for adding a few more bits of cover to the maps, but no hold out spots. These have always been game killing monsters that ensure that each and every game ends the same way, in front of a box or under a platform with WAY too many dead zombies in front. We need something better than that, namely what we have now.

1.) agreed!

2.) nah, i think the thruster pack balances out the movement speed and health, most halo 3 infected were either fast and weak or very slow and buffed

3.) agreed, flood need to be able to sneak attack and humans need a half decent chance of survival, motion sensors are enough

4.) definitely because they cant even get flood weapons to defend themselves

5.) yes and no, this would need to be bigger teams for bigger maps, same amount for small maps

6.) yeah! you always have awesome game in the last round and dont want it to end, then youre stuck in the lobby for awhile

7.) they could add custom maps once they have worked out all the kinks

Also regards to the pistole in Flood mode. It does not kill Flood with one headshot even though they have no shields.

Completely agree with these.

16 players doesn’t need to happen, but I think it would make it more fun. Though there needs to be more starting zombies - at least 1/4th of the players.

Being your unique color is only available for a couple gametypes, and there’s no good reason to be a team color in flood. Especially when zombies have flood skins, so it’s easier than ever to see who’s on your team.

Thruster packs is just idiotic. Flying zombies… really? Humans shouldn’t get armor abilities, and zombies should only have promethean vision.

Also, it shouldn’t take at least half a magnum clip to kill a zombie. Two shots at most.

And fix the bug where if you kill a flood player with the shotgun and get a bulltrue you die 100% of the time!

I honestly can’t help but feel that this game would have been a lot better had there been an open beta. Sure, some just use that to play the game, but there is another group of folks who report the bugs, fix the kinks and make good suggestions.

I agree with 1 and 6.

No forced colors, and have at least 5 rounds. Three is way too short.

I agree with everything posted, except for numbers 2 and 3.

Neither zombies or humans should have AA’s imo. When a player has an AA to support him he stops needing the help of team work. Anyone remember the days of halo 3 where staying in numbers were your best bet at overall survival?

+1 to this, and what ruins infection the most is that stupid thruster pack

this

I wouldn’t change a thing about Flood except for expanding the custom game options. Honestly, it just sounds to me like people are upset that they can longer just stand in an easily defensible spot and camp with a pistol and shotgun. Boo hoo.

I agree, the custom options are much much more important. Much much more.

I agree with the OP, at least make everything Optional, maybe a second playlist for Retro Flood or something?

1 - agree, we should all use our colours as we did in Infection on Reach. Flood are easily recognised by their looks and sounds!

2 - disagree. Thruster pack adds something new to the infection game style. I do think sprint with unlimited speed boost could work though.

3 - Promethian vision should probably only go to Spartans. Infection has always been about finding a good hiding spot and covering all your options, the Flood also have the Thruster Pack so its easier for them to flank you now. If they are working together then the vision and thruster can be a deadly combo.

4 - nope. Infection is about survival with one loadout, no resupplys.

5 - could be too many players on some maps I think so probably wouldn’t work yet.

6 - Yes. The number of rounds could do with increasing. It has always been something that annoyed me with Infection.

7 - nope. Maps should be left as they are. The art of infection is finding hiding spots within the map already

I think the resolution to suit everyone is to create a playlist called ‘Infection’ based off of the rules used in Reach.
Then flood mode can be it’s own thing.
