First off, I would like to say I am very impressed with the overall product that 343 has given us, as it has come a long way since it’s launch date. It seems they have done a lot to satisfy the competetive halo community, as well as the the paying a lot of attention to detail in the overall custom games experience, making for a greater plethora of possibilities for more interesting and very unique custom games.
I would also like to thank 343 for listening to the community by bringing back what I feel (and many other active halo 5 fans and players) is one of the cornerstones of custom games; Infection. With that being said, myself, and a lot of other halo 5 fans are experiencing great frustration with a very specific, yet gameplay hindering(Some would argue it breaking) issue with the sword mechanics; and that is the lack of the ability for a shotgun wielder to effectively outplay a sword wielder in mid lunge, if he/she is quicker to the trigger (bulltrue).
Halo players have found it fairly easy to transition from halo 1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to reach, reach to 4 etc, due to the fact the the core of the gameplay never seemed to lack anything from the previous games, and felt as if each sequel in comparison to the previous was truly an all round upgrade in respect to gameplay. Though now in halo 5 with this mechanic(bulltrue) being all but completely removed, it seems as though infection is now, while not entirely, is starting to lean more and more so toward rewarding unskilled players while punishing the skilled ones.
It was always very satisfying in halo reach (I didnt play much infection or, “flood” in 4) when you were able to defeat a horde of zombies by relying on your skill and sound understanding of the games solid, complex, yet predictable mechanics. You had options then. Do I evade the zombie to my rear now? Jump now to intercept the zombie sprinting off that bridge above me? Melee the zombie to my left first? Parry the Zombie charging me 5 meters away first, then blast the one to my far right immediately after by making a lightning quick 90 degree turn and firing a fatal point blank shot to the zombie MID lunge, and making it by the skin of my teeth?
When you pulled off those double, triple or even overkills on zombies due to your mastery of the close quarters mechanics that the sword and shotgun perfectly created, it was so satisfying. And those moments, many would agree, were heavily reliant on the accuracy (in respect to the quickness of either player) of the old bulltrue mechanic. I miss that. I miss being rewarded for my skill and ability to prioritize my targets and individual character actions, and performing the right action at the right time. I feel now, that I can no longer find those intensely satisfying moments in infection, due to the simple fact that real bulltrue is no longer present, and your quickness and reaction time play a much smaller part in a confrontation of sword and shotgun. If you are reading this, and you agree, that while 343 has done an excellent overall job with this game, that they need to take a look into this matter, please comment and help me bring attention to this matter! #makeinfectiongreatagain
