So this is the first time I’ve ever decided to use CoD controls on a Halo game simply because I have been playing a bit of Advanced Warfare, and I’m terrible at adjusting (AW doesn’t cater to Halo controls so I had to get used to CoD controls). I also thought this might feel a bit more natural with the new ADS, but I’ve run into some issues with this control scheme.
The biggest one is trying to ground pound; I know this move is largely impractical and impossible to land, but I just want to have fun ya know? Anyways, in order to ground pound on fishstick controls, you need to hold down B in mid-air, and then you aim with the right analog stick. This issue with this is it is I want to hold down B with my thumb, but then I can’t move the right analog stick, so instead I have to hold down B with my forefinger and abandon the right trigger in order to aim the ability. By the time I hit the ground,I’m still trying to position my hand so I can shoot again. I think it would be a better if the aiming for ground pound were moved to the left analog stick since I wouldn’t have to hold the controller in some funky position.
The next issue I’ve run into is I can’t figure out how to zoom twice on the sniper with left trigger zoom. I’m having a hard time thinking of how you could fix this, but it is definitely essential that you allow the two levels of zoom. Of course maybe I’m just missing the trick, but I haven’t been able to figure it out. Maybe you could change zooming all together so that one click of the trigger with keep you zoomed in, and if you hold it long enough you zoom back out when you release the trigger (the way it’s worked with pushing the right analog stick in in some of the past Halo games).
I know a vast majority of you guys probably don’t use these controls, but I feel like this is an issue worth addressing since no control scheme should put you at a disadvantage.
P.S. Why can’t we do custom control schemes yet on basically any console game? It would solve all of these issues.
To toggle the second zoom you tap the left thumbstick. I actually like fishstick more than recon control scheme despite recon being more similar to the Halo controls we’ve seen from 3 and Reach.
Not exactly sure what you’re doing with ground pound. You don’t need to crouch to do it. Having melee on the thumbstick isn’t exactly good for Halo controls. If anything I’d recommend Halo 4 controls right bumper is melee, X is reload, LT is grenades and right stick is zoom might make it easier on you.
I use fishstick because it’s closest to what I use in battlefield 4. It was mainly for the ADS, but the more I play Halo the less I use it ADS. No need to hit B, press down on the right stick and aim. Not the best but ground pound isn’t used that much. I like melee on the stick. The great mystery is why is it called fishstick?
It’s called fishstick as in COD. I believe some fishstick brands are actually cod, the fish. They couldn’t call it CoD obviously.
I tried using fish stick for awhile because I wanted smart link to be more accessible. Thought maybe I was missing out on something big. Using two different buttons for double scope was goofy. I would melee on accident often, although sometimes that’s better than when I zoom with my normal set up. Ground Pound became nearly useless though because I had to keep the right analog depressed while trying to aim the pound. I realised the GP is worthless with fish stick, and I’m not willing to sacrifice that. I switched back because GP is very useful in Warzone, although far more risky in Arena. This layout may have worked before, but spartan abilities are a game changer. If there was some way to overcome these deficiencies, I would reconsider fish stick even though I never play CoD.
I use recon and ran into the same issue. I realized that I was better off holding b with my right thumb and aiming the right stick with my left thumb. It took some getting use to, but its natural to me now. I also have somewhat long fingers, so I don’t know if this is feasible for everyone.
