“When you first saw Halo, were you blinded by its majesty?”

so in this topic you can describe your first reactions to Halo by answering on the question above and/or writing something else about your first time with Halo.

Before I go and say something stupid: Are we talking about the fictional death hula-hoops or the franchise as a whole?

the franchise but sure if you want to you can add a reaction to the hula-hoop of death too at the end.

Ah. Thanks for the clarification.

Now, as for my actual reaction… before I had played any of the games, I just saw it as “big green Master Chief guy shoots aliens”. It was more or less the general attitude I had towards shooters at the time.

However, after actually getting into the franchise… I don’t know how to describe it, but it was something of a realization to me. It was just… there’s more to Halo than being a shooter, and it really pulled me into the series.

Paralysed and dumbstruck. XD

I only really got into Halo about 5 years ago believe it or not. My first game was ODST. Overall I liked the atmosphere, the music and the story. Seeing as I had played some shooters before such as star wars battlefront, I knew Halo was a fps. However I kept playing Halo. I pushed aside CoD completely, so all my gaming mainly goes in to Halo, mainly collecting the achievements.

My first encounter was in an shop were you could test it and I hate it,as there was no explanation how to play.

Which Halo game?

My brother thought it was a good idea to put halo 2 on legendary when I was five years old which was the first time I played :frowning:

Did you finish it on Legendary the first time round?

can be a bit irritating for sure. First time i played i just tried buttons and saw what they did. Like, what is the worst that could happen?

thats kind of **** move to do. Hope you got back to Halo soon enough.

overall not all experiences seem to be happy which is a shame though luckily we have gotten the chance to at least eventually experience better moments in Halo.

Yeah noob combo is the best thing. Makes it pretty simple really

Oh and speed running strats are quite handy to know, especially on cairo station.

Don’t worry I’ve beaten it in under 3 hours on legendary now. Wish I knew all of those strats when I was five though

“50 bucks? I can’t afford that.”

Then some time passed and I purchased Halo CE and Halo 2 with the birthday money I had received that day.

I used to go to friends house all the time in middle school and high school to play CE and I could not get enough, even just running through the campaign over and over it was amazing to me. Then H2 came out and I started to play online against other people, and that’s when I knew I was hooked to gaming. I am and always will be a campaign first guy, but the ability to play and talk to people in other places was amazing to me as a 15-16 year old.

I saw the Warthog on the back of the case at a friends house and thought, ‘WoAh, that car has a gun?! I wanna use that!’, couple of hours later I was crashing into grunts and running over my friend on Silent Cartographer. We played trough practically the whole game and I loved it.

Well…I did, right up until that cutscene, when my enjoyment quickly turned into anxiety and panic.
We never made it past Keyes.

I cried and put my face in my pillow when I was 7 because I was afraid of the hunters in Halo 3 and ODST, so I poured my eyes out and asked my brother to kill them in co-op

The game as a whole? Ehh. It was a pretty good time waster back in the day.
The Hunters? OHHHHH GOD THE HUNTERS.
Ok, keep in mind, when I first played CE, I was around 5 years old. I was born a couple months before the game came out. And I wasn’t smart enough to figure out anything about god-mode pistol over here. Whenever I saw Hunters, I immediately paused the game and went to my dad so I could ask him to kill them for me. Hell, I wasn’t the only one; my mom was scared of them too (and she still is to this day, now I have to do it).

Halo 2 was a different story.

Normally, I am not a family man. I don’t like going to family events where a bunch of my cousins and aunts and uncles are. So when my mom pulled out a Xbox copy of Halo 2 during one of my cousin’s birthdays (keep in mind all of them are like high school level and I’m like 6-7 years old), I immediately thought “Wait, there’s another one?!” And now here I am.
