Popcorn flood on 343 Guilty Spark. I threw grenades.
I’m relatively new to the series, and my first game was Halo 4. The next game I played was Halo 3. First time facing the Flood was a pain in the -Yoink- because I was on Legendary, and didn’t realize the power of Plasma Rifles against Flood in 3, so it ended up being nadespam and shotguns with the occasional SMG and Assault Rifle.

Lol, I meleed one and found out they killed each other XD
it was halo 3 and I didn’t realize that they could reanimate eachother so it took a lot longer to fight them then i realized it could
I don’t remember that was so long ago… I do remember saving shotgun shells for them because I thought that was the most effective firearm against them.
Halo 2.
It got me into Halo so the I bought Halo CE and 3 and so on.
I first met The Flood in Halo Combat Evolve, I was around 7 when this happen and it was definitely not a fun day for 7 year old me.
After Cortana told me to stop Captain Keyes from doing something that “The Covenant” unleashed something and now are afraid, that got me really scared because that made me think, what could actually make “The Covenant” scared if their not afraid of regular people with guns. Once I was drop off by Foe Hammer and start playing the level, “343 Guilty Spark”, I didn’t had the same “happy Gun-gardening tool” feeling than the previous levels, but instead of the “What is going on” feeling and for a 7 year with that feeling type of thought, it’s never good. After After seeing the down Pelican and the cut scene where you see the Covenant running away from something I was confused and scared. After killing the small squad near by, 7 year old me start to notice the motion tracker detecting multiple friendly’s nearby. I moved towards the signals to see if they could help but when I got close the them the vanished. This was confusing for me at the time because it have a few times before reaching the entrance of the facility, that’s where I see Grunts and Jackels running away from gun firer and grenades. They ignored me and pass by me as they were running, then i figure that they must be inside and Captain Keyes. As I got inside of the building nobody was their, I knew bullets and grenades don’t shoot by themselves so somebody must have don’t.
I moved on into the level, the deeper I got into the facility, the stranger things get as I saw dead Grunts and Jackels on the floors, structures that we’re blown apart, corridor walls painted with glowing blue and purple blood all over, strange green slime dropping down from some large glass container, and a mariner I found freaking out about something and starts shooting me at me. Passing all of that I finally made “weapon’s cache” where Keyes was last seen, when I saw the dead marines and their blood all over the floor, I knew something was up. Then “the Cut Scene” happen. Once I saw the whole thing and learning what happen to this place and Captain Keyes squad, my 7 year old mind exploded. Once I saw Master Chief throwing away the chip and start aiming his gun, I knew they we’re still inside. And once the flood music start playing and the flood spores burst out from the doors I panic and just shoot the hell out of them. And became worst when the combat forms start bursting open the door I came in. I was scared outta my mind when my assault rifle didn’t look like it was killing them. I keep dying and dying in the same room and once clear it and start getting the hell out of the facility, the flood was all over the place and after more deaths from them I just stop play Halo for a straight month because of that level. I was so scared of playing a game again. When I did played it again, usual just play the game from the beginning level, up until “343 Guilty Spark” load up then I stop.
I eventually passed the game once I man up a bit later that year, but I’ll never forget that day I first met “The Flood”. Hey I was either 7 or 6 at the time, what did you expect when a kid that age playing a rated M game.

sums up my experience better than I can
I first met the flood in Halo 3 before I even knew what it was. I didn’t know what High Charity was either so I was very confused and frightened by the sight of the Flood, especially on the mission Cortana.
My first experience with the flood was when I was 11 years old (26 now) when I got Halo: CE for Christmas. I manage to get to the level 343 Guilty Spark and I could immediately tell the atmosphere and pace of the game was different from previous levels. So I knew something was up but I couldn’t figure out what it was. It was also due to Bungie being really really good at keeping the Flood secret before the game was released. You never saw the Flood in the tv commercials if I remember correctly.
This level alone took me roughly two days to beat because I was just so terrified playing it by myself. I remember telling my brother, “Dude you gotta check this game out! Come watch me play!” but in reality I only wanted him to watch so I wouldn’t be alone haha. His interest in the game didn’t last long so I was again stuck playing on that level by myself. I was playing this level at night time mind you so when I got to the part where you were checking the video feed from Jenkin’s helmet cam, that was the moment where I was literally terrified and didn’t want to move my character another inch. So I switched off the game and didn’t go back for a couple of days until I managed to build up enough courage to at least try and finish it.
When I did go back to playing that level, I nade spammed the hell out of those things and ran through most of the encounters. Especially after being introduced to the combat forms for the first time. I remember feeling the biggest relief when I took the elevator up to the surface and was met up with fellow marines with shotguns. I was so happy but knew the level was still not over. After managing to kill most of the Flood forms and the ending cutscene beginning, I was so relieved that it was over and said to myself, “Glad that’s done.” Little did I know that the very next level was The Library so you can only imagine the anguish I was experiencing when I went through that one…best gaming memories of my life.
I don’t think ill be able to remember since I was 1.
Halo CE flood way back in the day. They were creepy back then. Now they are just the worst part of the game because they aren’t any fun to fight lol.
Technically, my first experience with the Flood was watching my brother play Halo: Combat Evolve’s campaign back in 2001. Pretty scary back then! I didn’t fight them myself until years later, when I finally summed up the courage to play those levels myself. Let’s just say, I started by rushing in, yelling in real life, and spamming the right trigger! I still go a little crazy with ammunition, as they still freak me out to this day, but I try to make sure I have a Plasma Rifle and Shotgun handy.
My first experience was on mission 343 Guilty Spark in Halo: Combat Evolved. I was 4 at the time, the first week the game was out. As a small child, it was extremely terrifying, and I’m honestly not sure why my parents let me play it, but I’m so glad they did. I actually had a recurring nightmare about them in the coming days and few weeks until I was able to beat the game, and ultimately “finish the Flood” (or so I thought).
I remember playing Halo 2, the second mission as the Arbiter. When half-jaw mentioned the stench, I immediately knew that something was wrong, and the flood were most likely involved. I’m honestly a little sad to see they haven’t had an appearance in recent games, but I’m sure they will return somehow in Halo 6.

Oh my gosh, I relate to a lot of this (and not only because we apparently are the same age)! Glad to hear I wasn’t the only one freaked out by the Flood and ran through most encounters. Though as I said in my own post, I started by watching my brother play, but it didn’t diminish the fear I felt. The Library truly was hell to watch. I’ve only ever played The Library on co-op, never by myself, even to this day… o_O

Nice! Yeah the Flood were the most terrifying yet amazing enemies I encountered in a game before at that age. I was especially afraid to look behind me as I was running away because you knew from your radar that they were chasing after you. Ugh don’t get me started on The Library. There was a point where I felt that the level was never going to end.

I feel as if that was most Halo players, lol!
My fear and hatred for the Flood is why I find Halo 3 to be the most fun of the original trilogy to play, because there are really only two Flood-heavy levels, and most that have Flood in them, you are not fighting alone. “Cortana” is obnoxious, but that’s really the only “bad” Flood level in that whole game. H3 was the first Halo game where I could essentially play all levels without help from my brother. HCE and H2, on the other hand, have some truly gruelling, merciless Flood levels in them that are really creepy…
But as much as I hate fighting the Flood, they really are a great element of the series. They are the real threat. It’s just too bad that they have to hit hard and act like zombies.

I’m really hoping that the Flood return in Halo 6 seeing as though H5 set up their return quite nicely. If they do return, this will be the first time in 8 years that we’ll fight them again. Pretty crazy how long it’s been.
