“FIRST STRIKE” VS. HALO REACH
If you’ve read the book (I’m 3/4 in) and played the game, you’ll notice a few discrepancies regarding Dr. Halsey.
a) Book: Dr. Halsey is still on Reach after the events of Halo CE, when Chief returns to Reach
b) Game: Dr. Halsey leaves the planet with Jun
a) Book: Cortana is with Captain Keyes on the Autumn in orbit while it’s engaged in battle and Chief is destroying data on a UNSC station.
b) Game: Cortana is with Halsey, to be handed off to Noble Team, then escorted to the Autumn which is docked on Reach’s surface while Chief is in Cryo*
a) Book: Dr. Halsey is under Castle Base with Red Team
b) Game: Dr. Halsey is under Sword Base with Noble Team
a) Book: Dr. Halsey wears glasses
b) Game: She does not
As far as Canon goes: which is considered correct?
(the last one was a joke BTW)
*Was the Chief in Cryo Easter Egg in Reach suppose to be just an Easter Egg, not suggesting he was actually there, on the surface taking a nap while his Spartans fell?
Who says she left the planet with Jun before chief got there? Theoretically, Jun dropped Halsey off and got off planet his own way, but more realistically I’d say they just expect you to do a bit of canoneering. I’m just going to pretend Jun was with the rest of the S-IIs when Chief rescued them, and survives the trip back to earth.
In Dr Halseys journal it states that John had a fragment of Cortana rather than the whole thing (or perhaps Halsey had the fragment…either way).
If you paid attention to the game, you would’ve heard Carter tell Jun to escort her to Castle base. If you paid attention to the time stamps, you would know that all the stuff at Sword happened before she arrived at Castle.
Well I guess that clears it up then. I must have missed the Castle Base comment in Reach, I thought they left the planet … it’s been a while since I played through the campaign.
And no Wazooty, I never pay attention to what I’m doing ever. Unless you were being facetious. Which you were. But thanks for answering my question anyway.
So … still a tad confused as to why Cortana was split then. If the battle above Reach–where Chief destroys the station–took place after Noble 6 dropped off Cortana, then why the need for the fragment?
Halsey still had Kalmiya with her. Or is Kalmiya the fragment? And Noble’s mission was to get Cortana off the planet so she could escape the Covenant. So why risk leaving a fragment?
(I didn’t get the Legendary edition of the game, so I never read the journal)

Its ok that you didnt read the journal.
Cortana was split so that she can
1)Assist in the battle above reach and do armor testing with Chief on reach.
2)Go over data in the forerunner artifact under Sword Base. The data not being revealed to my knowledge, but last theory I remember is it being the coordinates to Alpha Halo. Halsey thought it was important so that’s why she made a fragment.
Kalmiya isnt the fragment
And its better to have a whole cortana than a split one.

I read that she pulled the coordinate data for installation 04 from the artifacts under Sword Base, I guess I just missed entirely that she was split.
When did they rejoin the two fragments?

Wouldn’t that be something if there was still a fragment of her hidden away by Dr. Halsey before her arrest? Something Chief could be off looking for?

Cortana definitely doesnt have a fragment anymore. After Keyes got it. Its safe to assume he put one and two together again.

I wasn’t, but thanks as$hole. I apologize so profusely for answering your questions. Stay in school and learn to conquer that ADD. I believe in you.

Good lord man, I was being sarcastic. Nothing personal, just a little jab.
