A pattern I recognized in my time as a Halo player is that whichever team wins the first skirmish of the match, i.e. whichever team grabs the first power weapons and/or kills the enemy team in the first few minutes of the match will win most of the time. A team on the losing end of the first skirmish has little to no chance of winning the match because the other team has all the power weapons and strategic points locked down from the very start. I’ve taken to leaving matches that has the enemy team with double or 3 times the score as my team in the first 5 or so minutes because there is no way to win that match by that point. What do you think? Sometimes I will stay in a match if I’m doing very well, such as getting 24k/7d on a losing team.
Your hypothesis seems a bit shakey. In ranked Halo 2A most of my games are pretty even, regardless of who grabs the first power weapon. Comebacks or letdowns are not uncommon.
Heh, I used to joke with my friends saying that Halo was actually a racing game, since it was always a race to the sword or sniper rifle in Halo 3.
With help from your teammates you can take down an enemy with a power weapon fairly easily. But good teammates are a luxury that most people don’t have, and I assume that this applies to you as well.
If the other team has the power weapons and you’re not getting any help dealing with them, you could try to sneak up on them. Pinpoint their location, and just before you get within radar range, crouch and move. You won’t trip their motion trackers this way. Since Halo players always expect enemies to show up on their radar first, that surprise shot will really shake them up.
As Rhydon pointed out, it has everything to do with the quality of your teammates. At lower levels the scenario you describe will play out over and over again. Once you hit that invisible rank barrier (not really sure what the magic number actually is) you’ll find that teams behave as teams and they know what to do to overcome early reversals. Good luck actually getting to that number without a decent regular team.
Don’t be a quitter like that. It’s definitely more a team based thing, just got to know how to deal with each weapon.
Not really, there has been many moments where an opponent grabbed a poweful weapon first and I still kill him/her before they had the opportunity to use it. Of course it depends, there are many ways to kill them.
