After being out of the community since Halo 2 wayyyy back when, I finally resubmerged myself with Halo 4. Don’t get me wrong - I’ve played every Halo in between, a lot, but I haven’t delved into all night play sessions and replaying the campaign over and over since Halo 2.
I just felt the need to come in and write to 343i, and the community, that what we have here is something special. 343i has done nearly the impossible - they’ve given us a game that holds up to modern scrutiny in terms of graphics, gameplay innovation, etc., while simultaneously giving us a game that FEELS like Halo. It’s incredible.
Every time I come on the forum, it’s littered with hundreds of threads complaining about this or that. I understand that this is the method the community uses to let 343i know where it can improve. But I think it’s also necessary to let 343i know that they’ve pulled it off! That, while there may be various small tweaks and changes we’d love to see in the future, that they’ve reignited a waning community and brought many people back from the ennui of CoD’s and other Madden-esque clones turned out year after year.
For a while, I walked away from games. I forgot what it really was about. But when the H4’s campaign ended, I wiped the tears from my eyes, picked up the controller, and got back into the fight.
That’s what 343i has made. A great game. They made Halo.
