Hey guys I just looked trough a thread opened by frenchfryjordan linking to an article from the guardian, in which we find this picture…
A reply suggested that Fred is holding a new weapon, then this hint from official site (think it was josh) came to my mind which said that there is going to be a new weapon in the final game with two different firemodes… Judging from the look of this weapon it could be this hinted weapon and could work with an one shot firemode for longer range fights (look at the scope) and also an automatic firemode for close to mid range engagements.
I really hope that I’m right here, because I would really appreciate an allrounder weapon like the scar and scarab from crisis (totally love sniping with them and if I’m spotted I could change the fire mode to automatic with one button and turn enemies into bullet sponges)

I see where you’re coming from on the new weapon standpoint, but to me its just screaming dmr. The front looks new, but the pattern by the trigger and under the scope looks like the 4 dmr
It’s simply a dmr with horrendous perspective.
It is a conceptual art of a Designated Marksmen Rifle, if you searched up ‘DMR’ you would find the image, is concurrent of modern weapon designs.
Hold up a second, that picture’s caption describes it as ‘cover artwork’. Isn’t the cover art supposed to be Chief and Locke facing off over Sanghelios?

Yeah, my initial thought was that it’s just this artist’s impression of the DMR.

It’s the Guardian, I wouldn’t really take their word as law…

Does it bother anyone else that it is the year 2500 something and we have spaceships and power armor and slip space travel Andre unsc is using 20th century weapons. A pump action shotgu?!?

I think it actually is a new weapon. Tanaka is holding a DMR in the top right and it looks nothing like Freds weapon. Plus that part in front of the trigger looks like it could be a longer clip for automatic fire. It looks almost like the gun has two barrels too. Maybe a DMR with an underslung SMG or something like that.
It just looks like a DMR with a strange grip on it.

Exactly those two look completely different… While Tanaka’s weapon looks like the DMR seen in the games, Fred’s one looks more like an assault rifle from the present with a scope and not even near the DMR
If you look closely the Barrel(s) look to bulky for a DMR, the scope look nothing like the DMR’s one, the part in front of the trigger isn’t anywhere near the DMR ones…
I understand that every artist has it’s own vision of things, but that different? Also the picture comes from 343 so it should look the same way like the other concepts and then there is the point, that the actual DMR version is included in the picture, just compare them
While I see where you’re coming from, let’s think about this logically… Why on Earth would 343i implement yet another human rifle into the sandbox? With both the BR and DMR, I fail to see the benefit of having another scoped human weapon.
The grunts in that picture are puny too compared to the warthog.
