Hello
I wasn’t sure exactly where to post this thread. Its more of a general halo question than one that pertains directly to Halo 4.
I’ve noticed from save films and screen shots that the spartan sitting passenger in the warthog is perfectly positioned and moves/ reacts to impacts, shots and bumps from the drive. I’ve always wondered why the passenger can’t remain in a 1st person view point. All that beautiful detail seems wasted now, throwing my POV all the way out to a third person perspective.
Is there a reason we haven’t trialed that view in any of the halo games? I’d imagine there is more than just me thinking that this could be a pretty sweet addition to the game.
Passenger First person would be nice, but I would imagine there are some graphical clipping issues that might take place with weapons and the vehicle.
The other issues is as the passenger, you are not supposed to be the main threat in the vehicle, being able to correctly aim your shots might make the passenger as much of a threat as the main gun.
So between graphics and balance, I think that’s the answer.
The Halo REACH Beta intro had the Worthog being driven in First Person View, it looked amazing, and made driving seem more intense.
But you couldn’t do this. This must had been something Bungie thought about implementing for REACH. But not even in the Beta could you do this. But the video looked amazing.
Would be nice you could swap between 3rd and 1st, It would make splatters so much easier to do.
When Passenger in a vehicle in previous Halo games, were you in 1st or 3rd person view? I can’t remember.
Passenger first person was in CE, I don’t think it’s that difficult to bring it back.

Thanks for answering my question, i though another Title had this.
If you press the “crouch” button while you are inside a vehicle it should swap between 1st and 3rd person views.

A mod showing it off in halo 3. Id love for it to be optional, as it is in Battlefield. First person for those of us who love immersion, and 3rd for those who like to know where theyre going lol.
Only problem is, todays gamer is a whiny, hateful breed it would seem, and if 343 did this people would scream “its not balanced, people who are in 3rd person have an advantage over me for wanting to drive first person!” lol…

1st person or 3rd, I always end up with idiot teammates if I join a random game rather than one I set up with friends.
I bet 1st person could be cool for machinima.
We had FP in Halo one with the Warthog. However I think driving would be weird.
To answer your question no it isn’t weird. There was a mod for halo pc that allowed first person driving in most of the vehicles. It added a lot of immersion with the game itself especially in the multiplayer portion and never really felt that bad.
I like the idea of switching between first and third person. I will admit though, I have not had much experience with first person driving. I would appreciate the challenge, because for me, it absolutely would be.
Maybe it could be enforced during a Hog run but I’d rather see it as an option, I like keeping track of my marines (while I’m on that note, when are we going to be able to see passenger health again?).
I’ll just leave this here (I had to ferry some of 'em with the Hog. That’d be 20x harder if it were in first person view).
It would be cool in vehicles like the ghost and wraith. If you havent noticed, they have thermal-like terminals that show whats in front of you in real time. It kinda looks like odst VISR vision, except blue. Now that would be cool.(As a toggle option of course)
> Passenger first person was in CE, I don’t think it’s that difficult to bring it back.
True. While it made shooting - or rather hitting - stuff harder, it was also much more intense and fun. So yeah, first person view for Warthog passenger and/or driver would be great. But then I’d also want that view for any other vehicle.

Is this true? I know hitting crouch in Theater switches your character between 1st and 3rd…

What’s wrong with wanting a balanced game?

You have to look at this from a gameplay perspective though, could you imagine if the Scorpion or the Wraith were in first-person? The amount of boarding would skyrocket.
I’ll be the first to say that driving in the first-person would be cool (I play all racing games in that view). However it should only be limited to the Warthog and the Mongoose, and even then it should be optional.
I remember the first-person passenger view. It looked neat, but it was hard to hit your intended targets or to get a good sense of your surroundings. I prefer the third-person view, especially for Rocket Race. Gameplay comes before aesthetics for me.

No, I’m saying that’s how it should be. lol

I disagree.
In my opinion, it’s more sensible to use the Zoom button.
Especially since you shouldn’t be able zoom in while in the passenger seat.
I truly hope 343 has time to do this in Halo 5.
