For a while now I’ve been wanting to experience driving a Warthog in first person mode, or operating the turret in first person as well.
I think it would be pretty cool if there was an option to go into first person mode (like Battlefield 3.)
Also this would be OPTIONAL. So for all the Halo 3 fanboys this shouldn’t be a problem.
I agree. I think if you click your thumbstick (just like you do to zoom) then it should switch between 3rd and 1st person. Not really sure what we’d get out of having 1st person perspective but it would be a nice change.
I agree. it would add more depth to the game IMO
Agreed, a toggle perspective would add no harm.
Nicee
Cool. I never thought of the first person turret idea for the hog. This would make gameplay more intense. I also like the idea of toggling with the thumbstick for first person actions in vehicles.
It’s possible. I remember how awesome it was for the Passenger to have FP mode in CE.
I think this idea should not only count in the Warthog, but the other vehicles. For instance the Mongoose, not much needs change there. Then the Hornet/Falcon/Pelican/Whatever UNSC Aerial craft should have a cockpit view, fit with Throttle and Altitude Levers, as well as a targeting screen for missiles or under-mounted machine guns. THe Scorpion should be a computer screen positioned right next to the Gun Barrel, that allows us to view the world, with the regular Scorpion HUD overlayed on it. (For lock ons I think there should still be a red square on the computer screen built in to the Aerial Vehicle Dashboard, as well as one on you HUD, since I’m assuming MJOLNIR armor has a function for this.)
Although you are saying this would be an optional idea, I must ask why you guys would want to restrict your vision at all. I mean, anyone who has rode shotgun in Halo CE could tell you that you see more in 3rd person than in 1st. It might be cool for the warthog turret, but for everything else it would be pretty pointless.
Battlefield 3 does this perfectly so it should be easy to do in Halo.
I have also thought about this idea, and what I came up with as a benefit for driving in first person is to give the player access to gadgets on the dashboard of the vehicle.
So driving in third person would be the view for the amateur drivers and mastering first person driving would be for the dedicated taxi players. This is a great incentive for people to learn to drive Warthogs, instead of leaving them outside the base, unattended.
And while we’re at it, 343i should let the player be able to see everyone’s health on their HUD when using a vehicle. Maybe just a color code on the side, this would benefit both campaign and multiplayer.
I have wanted this with all vehicles,
but i understand that with vehicles like the scorpion, and most of the covanant vehicles, it would be harder, as there is tech in them that noobs cannot understand completely
i’m all in for the warthog,
and maybe even for mongeese, hornets, and falcons
BUT only as long as it’s optinal
i agree with the driving maybe, but no way should the turret be optimised for a first person perspective it would change the halo experience as we know it.

wow
but you have to admit that it is a little hard to see those displays, but if 343 angles the camera right, it will be awesome

Yeah, the Warthog definitely was not designed for first person driving, as shown here.
Now that a new trilogy is beginning, it would be the perfect time for 343 to make a few alterations to the Hog to make it more bearable in first person. I also wouldn’t mind a “free-look” while in first person so I can focus on the dashboard, my 3 or 9 ‘o’ clock as necessary.

I like that idea a lot, Pretty slick idea! My vote in for the idea…
I’m just trying to imagine a first person mode for the Banshee.
> I’m just trying to imagine a first person mode for the Banshee.
sheesh
what about for the wraith, ghost, or scorpion?

No clue for the Banshee, Wraith, or Scorpion, but if you look at the “windshield” of the Ghost (the screen that the player model looks into) it shows a blue-on-black vision mode similar to the night-vision on the Sniper Rifle. I forget the term for that, but it could work.
Anyway, I fully support this idea. I’ve been waiting for it to appear in Halo games since after Halo 2. Passenger driving in Halo CE’s Warthog was always awesome.
