I am going to regret mentioning this game here but I am going to anyway, in this particular new release game titled ‘Battlefield 3’ their is a visible first-person animation that is triggered by pressing A when facing low cover et cetera, et cetera. This causes the player to witness in first-person as your player/avatar leaps over the cover realistically. This adds to the atmosphere of the game and adds to the feel that you are a powerful and skilled super-soldier.
These animations could be implemented into future Halo’s in both Campign/CO-OP and Multi-Player if the community gives positive feedback. There is however undoubtedly going to be negative feedback and I believe 81% of these complaints could be avoided by one simple mechanic, if you want to use this particular animation you hold down the A button/Jump button and if you would rather just jump over the wall as seen in previous installments you can simply press or tap the A button/Jump button.
Other first-person animations could be implemented aswell such as cooking grenades/holding grenades, checking armour/weapons and more often etc.
Thanks for reading.
well while i dont entirely agree with cooking grenades( not sure if that was a suggestion or if it was just an example) i do like the idea of first person animations i think it would be awesome to be running to help your friend, vault over a barrier and tackle a guy into an assassination to save the day.

It was an example and the scenario you pictured is exactly what I was thinking of. Thanks for the feedback.
I was actually thinking about how cool that would be in Halo. I always feel like I’m watching a gun shoot in 3rd person instead of actually being MC. I agree with you whole-heartedly. This would be an awesome addition to Halo.
This is one of those things that I wont know how I’ll feel about it until it’s actually in the game. Part of me thinks it’s pretty cool, another part of me thinks I’ll become frustrated with it over time.
I don’t play Battlefield 3, so I can’t be sure of anything, but these animations seem only plausible in cover-based games like Gears of War (even if in 1st person).
Could you please provide video examples of what you are suggesting, OP?
Mantleing? I prefer Evade or crysis 2s’ slide when sprinting. I dont ever want magnetic cover moves or anything sticky.

I haven’t played BF3 myself but I have seen it been played. It actually is more for moving around your environment than cover. It makes the player feel more like a person opposed to a floating gun with a hand that occasionally adds new mags.

I agree with that. That kind of cover based shooting is just plain stupid IMO. Also, just a bit of trivia for those who are interested, the sliding mechanic seen in Crysis 2 was actually first seen in the third person shooter Vanquish.

I accidentally thanked you. Sorry. Or you’re welcome depending on how you look at it.
Anyways, the slide thing was really fun in Crysis 2. It was so much fun running up to somebody and right when they start shooting, slide under them and kill them. Good times, good times. To bad nobody plays that online anymore.
Edit: I removed the thank.

I guess it is true that you learn something new everyday!
I Dont think I have seen mantling or the hurdle done anywhere in an FPS or otherwise that would be seamless enough for Halo MP, Battlefield3 Brink and Crysis2 all have good ledge hurdle/grab moves that work on the 360 pad, still not Halo standard though.
If its movement you are after, I think pressing crouch at full sprint should put you in a feet first slide where you can fire or stock slap, you should also be allowed to walk at full speed, in full cloak and sprint in partial, if some elements of evade can be saved that would also be cool
Grenade Cooking wouldn’t work in Halo because the grenades don’t initiate their countdown until they hit the floor, a wall, or another person…etc. etc. etc. Cooking would literally do nothing.
I’m all for the animations though, but keep Assassinations in third person–I like seeing my Spartan in action.

You can pay me in cR.
Yes! I loved this addition on Battlefield 3, and I think it would work well on Halo. And it was fun to me for some reason…
I support this!
I think firstperson assassinations would be totally sick.

FarCry 2 had sprint-slide in 2008
