Halo just posted the first part of the soundtrack on YouTube. Sounds great imo. What do y’all think?
Meh. It’s okay, but nothing to write home about (in my opinion). I don’t really feel anything listening to it, other than the familiarity of the piano chords. I at least hope they come up with some new material instead of just repeating the same themes we’ve heard a bazillion times in the past.
I really like it! I’m just worried if they will keep it in the confort zone of repeating the same motifs and not came up with something new. But, I’m hopeful, the soundtrack in Halo always has been legendary and this one sounds pretty good imo.

Graphics aside, I am genuinely surprised that it sounds like Halo, coming from 343 of all people! I need to hear more as I think the bit at the 1:23 mark sounds a little too fast for me. However there are some slower moments that contrast nicely with it.
I still think the music in the E3 2018 and E3 2019 trailers sounds better though, and I hope to hear those tracks in game as they remind me fondly of Halo 3.

The E3 2018 teaser music was composed by Kazuma Jinnouchi specifically for that teaser right before he left 343, so it’s not from the game at all unfortunately.

Who cares they can still choose to include the tracks in game. And most of the E3 Infinite music iirc was actually Marty O’Donnell’s music from the first Halo 3 mission, so they have every right to use it in the new Halo game should they please.
There’s also a track in Halo 3 literally called “Brutes” so I would be surprised if that wasn’t in Infinite, as it seems to be a brute-centric game with the Banished.

The recording was licensed for the teaser, so they’d likely have to pay union fees (and also have to credit Kazuma and pay him residuals), so that won’t happen. The music industry is a strange beast.

Lol what? Microsoft own Halo music. That’s like saying every time they use a track from Halo 1-3 in Infinite they have to pay whoever was involved originally in those earlier games. Kazuma basically reused Marty’s tracks in E3 2018 so are you seriously saying Marty got paid for that trailer?

I’m not talking about the music, I’m talking about the orchestral recording. They can obviously use new recordings, or ones from previous games, but not necessarily this recording depending on if the orchestra used has strict union rules, in which case it would be licensed only for the 2018 teaser, not to mention the arrangement was by Kazuma, although the theme itself was by Marty. As a media composer, I know it’s -Yoink-, but that’s just how the business works. Research it if you don’t believe me.
Also yes, I believe Marty does still get royalties. Microsoft is also legally required to credit him for every game and on every soundtrack album that uses his material.
The song is on fire!!
Did you know that Marty is totally open to do another halo soundtrack? He said in an in interview however that he has yet to be approached by 343.
It is great and even though it has little to do with the people who got flak from the reveal, hopefully it serves as a small morale boost (judging by the reception).

THIS IS STRAIGHT FIRE! I LOVE GARETH ALREADY!
I don’t find it that interesting or memorable. To me, it sounds like filler music. Hopefully, the main theme and full soundtrack are much stronger.
The composers have great backgrounds working on Starbound and Ori (with Ori being one of my favorites of all time, incredibly emotional) so I’m excited to see what they’ve been able to do. This snippet sounds very promising to me overall.
