I just started playing Halo 4 and I was just wondering if there was anyway to get the first 5 episodes of Spartan Ops. I don’t really want to play it if I can’t play the first episodes.
If you have a Gold membership, you can play the first 5 episodes without worry. The second half, (episodes 6-10), require a 2.21 GB download, but is free.

I’m pretty sure that they will automatically download older episodes/missions once you play Halo 4 online with a gold membership. It would be false advertising if 343 didin’t provide the previous episodes/missions. Have you tried to play the game yet?

I think Spartan Ops Episodes 1-5 are loaded when you run/installed Disc 2 (the multiplayer stuff) for Halo 4.

The first five episodes of Spartan Ops are on Disc 2 of Halo 4. Once installed to the hard drive, you can play them by going to “Infinity” then selecting a Spartan Ops mission.
