As many in the forums will agree, Loadouts in the traditional sense don’t really work well in standard Halo multiplayer. But, does that mean that they don’t have a place in Halo at all? Not really. In fact, they allow the game to have a meaningful XP-based progression system. Let’s face it, armor isn’t really all that fun to earn by making a number increase. So where do Loadouts come in? Well, since AAs are gone, we have to look at what could actually be in our Loadout.
You could have a Primary Weapon (Assault Rifle, Battle Rifle and so on) Secondary(Pistol, SMG etc), your intial two grenades and perhaps some kind of Perk system.
Playing and ranking up earns you cR, which can be spent in a shop to get you the basic Loadout options. Then you can spend them on Supply Drops which contain Weapon Variants (Loadout weapons with different attributes, i.e an Assault Rifle with 60 rounds but greater recoil), Armor, and items which would be activated to you and your team mates extra advantages like your team starts the mission with a sniper or a rocket launcher, or activating an item means you do extra damage on respawn. As you rank up, you get to buy better drops SR1-10 would get you Recruit, and say SR50 would get you Mythic. Mythic-level weapons would have the greatest difference from the base weapons.
So, where would we get to use these?
Well, we know that they’re not really welcome in competitive play, but co-op and PvE-focused game modes are a great place for playstyle customisation.
My dream Co-Op suite would be to have Spartan Ops be an umbrella catch for three game modes:
Firefight: wave-based survival.
Missions: Similar to Halo 4’s Spartan Ops, short co-op focused missions.
Strikes: Longer missions, focused on teams greater than four.
Having a suite like this would be good for a number of reasons; More variation means more reasons to play, and having a strong reward system keeps people wanting to play and so on. Also means more DLC opportunities for new content; map packs don’t really work for Halo any more and just serve to split the community, so co-op content is a good way to add to the game post launch.
Would you guys like this sort of thing in Halo 5?
