Firefight, Spartan Ops, Both, Something New?

Just want to see what everyone thinks.

Discuss your opinions below.

I always enjoyed variety and love both firefight and spartan ops so both would be great firefight can be part of the Spartan training like the war games and Spartan Ops can be story based again but this time add something else also weather that be just a extension onto the two or something completely different like an expansion to the main story with added mission with Chief or something.

Speaking of ideas and off topic, but would anyone like a Halo RPG as one of the spinoff games?

I prefer both Firefight and SpOps

How about Project Spark support, but Halo-themed and styled specially for Halo 5? It could be a map editor/Halo game maker using the Project Spark engine alongside the Halo 5 engine tied to Halo 5. That way we could make our own Firefight and Spartan Ops missions, our own multiplayer maps, our own Campaigns, or whatever tickles our fancy! Unfortunately, Microsoft would never do it. Still, though. A Lehnaru can dream.

Is a Lehnaru a real thing lol? Like an animal? Or am I just stupid and it’s just your GT?

I played ODST the other day and I can say that I missed the wave style gamemode. I also loved SPops because of story…I guess I’d love both.

While I’d prefer to see both return, if I had to choose one, it’d be Spartan Ops.

I play Halo for its story above all else. Spartan Ops, even if it was terribly executed in Halo 4, offers much more in both gameplay and story than Firefight. Spartan Ops had a variety in objectives and encounters (though it most certainly recycled resources in an extremely annoying way) but Firefight was always the same. It had the same objective, the same enemies, the same order in which the skulls activate, the same order in which the enemies spawn, and it was extremely linear.

Spartan Ops offers much more that Firefight ever could.

It’sa me, Lehnaru-o! Gettin’ off topic is the name of my game, but what do you think of my idea?

Honestly, I’d want all three. I LOVED Spartan Ops, and the story it had, it made the whole story of Halo 4 more enjoyable for me, I felt the same way about ODST; I mean, it’s cool playing as one character, learning about their backstory, and their contribution(s) to the Halo universe, while at that exact same time, Master Chief is kicking some Covenant, and now Promethean, -Yoink-. However, other players don’t feel exactly the same way, and didn’t really favor Spartan Ops, I did. If they would have made a season 2, it would have been GOOD.
And, for Fire Fight, I’d like to see a few modes, and a playlists, in matchmaking. By that, I mean, one mode that is more like ODST, and then another mode, that is more like Reach. Fire Fight was fun, especially with friends, as it could get very competitive
Lastly, I’d love to see something new… Perhaps something to do with space vehicle flight? Such as the mission, " Long Night of Solace" from Reach, c’mon, let’s all face it: that was a badass mission, due to the space dog fight!
We’ll see what 343i will do, I have faith that WHATEVER they do, it WILL be good! Just hope they drop a Beta so they can polish up the game, one last time, so that players will be happy, and there won’t be as much complaining as there was with 4 (which was probably all bandwagoning).

The next-gen console games mean new ways to entertain their fans… in other words more innovation.

Firefight - a round based survival mode that pits a co-operative team against the Covenant Empire.

New Additions

  • Credit System… when a player completes map-based objectives or kills enemies he, or she, accumulates credits, which can be spent to assist in the teams survival.

  • Fortifications/Ordnance… when a player earns enough credits they can be spent on map-fortifications and ordnance, which means is sent from a UNSC vessel. Note: The top tier fortifications and ordnance must be unlocked over many games… so continually using that class accumulates experience and eventually unlocks it. Fortifications and ordnance categories would be Weapon (O), Vehicle (O), AI (O), Turrets (F), Barricades (F) and Orbital Strikes (F/O).

  • Flood… the Flood, these enemies were asked by many, to be added in the next firefight, but was not put in Halo: Reach. The Flood should interact with corpses and AI alike… they assimilate and grow even more dangerous with every corpse captured. This could create a 3 way or even four way battle in the firefight sandbox.

  • Promethean Ecumene… the Promethean, these are the new enemies of the Reclaimer Saga. There tactics revolve are a lot of complimentary team work… making players consider what to kill first.

  • Weather and Time Manipulation… this is just merely for maps to immerse the players even more and give them the feel of foreign environment besides the flora, and perhaps fauna.

  • Objectives/Dynamic Events… Okay after explaining the other sections this last one actually utilizes all of them. The objectives and dynamic events is so players have to choose between defending their forts or go outside complete the objective and get a reward, risk over reward. The objectives or dynamic events could be survival based, faction based, or just a locational objective. The survival based would be weather or terrain issues like acid rain, earthquake, avalanche, volcanic eruptions, rock slides, tsunamis… The faction based would be perhaps the Flood all of a sudden drop into the fight and cause a three way battle, they could build enough biomass and create a proto-gravemind which if left unchecked could co-ordinate the Flood, the Covenant Empire crashed phantoms, AA guns,

A lot of that sounds like Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer and I do like the ideas and I also like the idea of adding both features as firefight can be considered a training exercise while the Spartan Ops equivalent can be a second story based element. I like the flight idea but I think it is better suited for a Spartan Ops chapter or episode. For me a third option to extend the longevity of the game would be to add a SP expansion that would either continue Chiefs story or add a different view point like what ODST was supposed to be before going stand alone.

I wouldn’t mind a new Spartan Ops mode as long as it isn’t half–Yoinked!- like it was in Halo 4.

i agree it needs work for sure but its a good concept

My Idea for spartan ops-like mode that has elements of firefight with something new. Probably take lots of work to make though.

I would like both to return but also with some changes to them.

Firefight:
For Firefight, I’d like it if you were actually defending something. In Reach, the announcer would usually say something like “Defend this area”, but you could find a corner to hide in and there would be no repercussion for doing so, just a long wait till the match ends. Maybe have scenarios like with Red Team in Fall of Reach where you are defending the generator to the Orbital MAC Platforms.

I also think the wave/round/set setup could just be streamlined to a numerical wave count, and have every tenth wave be a boss wave. Have the standard things like chieftains and ultra elites, but could even get some bigger things, like maybe a pair of Scarabs, like in Halo 3, if the map allows.

Gameplay wise, if we get some larger areas, I’d like to see the player count be bumped up to 8. Have lives return the game, 5-10 should be about right, and it may be a bit of controversy, but I think a down-but-not-out system could work well with this mode. Maybe have a teammate inject biofoam into a downed player. With a limited life pool, players will want to remain near a comrade for if they are downed, they can be revived if reached in the short window before death, and each time they are downed after a revive the time is shortened until the player dies.

Also borrowing from GoW 3’s Horde 2.0, would like to have kills and medals earn credits so a player could purchase things like weapons, defenses, ammo, and vehicles, between waves. There should be a limit to what can be deployed depending on the map and what is already present as well, so not everyone will be able to have a Scorpion dropped off. Could even have a Pelican drop off vehicles so there is a cool down between vehicle orders, weapons and ammo could be dropped in via an ordnance pod but still have a varying cool down for each weapon, and for defenses I imagine it being two different ways. The first and probably easiest to implement would be how GoW 3 did it, having indicators around the map where you can spawn a defense of some kind, at a preset location. A bit like how it is to build a turret in Dominion. The second way would be to allow the player to call in a defense to the location they choose, I’m imagining in a way similar to Trenched/Iron Brigade, having them drop into the map like an ordnance. There can be a variety of turrets, both auto (like the Wolf Spider turret, AA machine gun turret, or AA missile turret from Reach) and manually controlled ones (basically stationary Warthog turrets, like in ODST).

Quite a bit more than just kill the things that move of course.

Spartan Ops:
For Spartan Ops, I would like the content to actually be focused on expanding the story, be more like an expansion like ODST, not like the pseudo-firefight we got in 4’s Spartan Ops with recycled everything from the campaign. They should actually be a series of campaign length and quality missions, capable of being done solo and scaling up to a full party. Also, if we are playing our Spartans in these stories, there should be some cutscenes that involve our Spartan and the team we are with, similar to how Reach allowed a customized Noble 6 to appear in the cutscenes.

and it becomes a straight up copy of horde mode

^This.

And for FF I would enjoy a new and improved firefight…think mass effect 3 or…COD zombies. (preferably not that mode because ewwww…)
