'Firefight' Mode

For me, Firefight has been an integral part of the Halo gaming experience since Halo 3: ODST. Hence, I would very much welcome a return (not necessarily ‘Firefight’) of a wave-based mode against A.I. and is outside of the campaign. With the recent announcement and reveal of Warzone, I am quite excited for this game mode, especially due to the implementation of A.I. and a requisition system for weapons and vehicles alike. However, there needs to be a return of a cooperative multiplayer against A.I. (once again, outside of the campaign).

I am not sure whether I am just holding onto an old game-mode and should just move on, so I am asking the community to see what your perspective is on a possible return of a ‘Firefight’-like mode and whether it is relevant for Halo 5.

I really enjoyed Firefight, especially playing with a group of friends. Although, it and Spartan Op’s missing is something that I personally would have rather been included in the game. Though overall Firefight and Spartan Op’s had mixed views on it, so I am on the side that supports it, but it not being here could also open new doors to new experiences as well. So I am just going to try it out and form a better opinion based on my experiences at that point.

I don’t see the big deal there is 7 halo games and only 2 had firefight. I don’t see how it upsets everyone. War zone looks beast.

I keep saying this to the point that it’s starting to feel a little spammy, but Warzone is essentially Firefight with PVP, so I kinda think of it as a replacement. It would be nice if you could hop into Warzone offline by yourself to battle the AI and bosses.

Never know. 343 has the ability to create gametypes from nothing like Race. Could be possible to bring back Firefight sometime in the future. At this point I doubt they have any time left in development to create, playtest and then bug test an entire mode. Especially when they have thousands of existing and potential bugs in Warzone at the moment.

I will miss fire fight dearly, but if 343 is determined that we move ahead without it then we move ahead without it. It seems especially disappointing given the fact that spartan ops missions in Halo 4 were probably “forged” in about half an hour each. The maps already existed so no extra development involved there. All they had to do was drop in waypoints and enemy spawns. How hard could that possibly be?

I can only assume that 343i is deliberately separating Halo fans from Firefight. We were mad when it wasn’t in Halo 4, we spoke up, it was removed from MCC ODST, we spoke up, It’s not in Halo 5, and we’re talking about it now.

343i clearly does’t want to continue Firefight for reasons that are currently unknown.

I have to say I am disappointed that there is no confirmed PvE mode. I’ll be honest, I am not a fan of Halo Multiplayer but I loved Firefight in ODST and Reach, pretty much what I played while online and even offline. I could only play campaign and Spartan Ops some much before it just got repetitive. At least Firefight would give you a bit of variety. I would have preferred a PvE mode that had variable objectives not just survival.

I 100% agree with you - not everyone simply wants to play competitive multiplayer. Firefight, as compared to Spartan Ops, had longevity at least.

It’s not here. Stop complaining about it. There are multiple posts of this EVERY DAY. Use one of them, make an ‘official’ thread so that we stop seeing 40 of them all day long.

Sorry but if it were “integral” then where is it?

Haha, hope you’re not saying multiplayer lacks longevity. it is after all a part of the “core” of halo as well as the campaign.

Multiplayer is a very big part of the Halo experience as much so as the story/campaign. I have no doubt people who want a dedicated PvE mode are probably in the minority and with a game of this scale they need to make design decisions that prevent them from putting everything everyone wants (ie - Elites in multiplayer, etc…) However, I still want to voice my disappointment in the lack of a dedicated and improved on PvE mode over Warzone. I am going to try it and I hope from someone like me it does satisfy and I am remaining optimistic, however, again I am not a big fan of Halo PvP and am disappointed my only true PvE experience is campaign.

Warzone is literally nothing like firefight. I have no clue why people keep repeating this.

Would love a Spartans Ops but in an Elite verson following Thel or somin.

Normally I agree with you, Martini, but in this circumstance I have to agree with Bensolo31. Wargames looks fun, but it looks nothing like firefight. Firefight, to me, is about holding an area against a horde of oncoming AI enemies. In the Wargames videos I have seen (mind you, I haven’t played yet!) there have been almost no AI enemies on the map. An elite spawns with what I believe is two jackals. A pair of hunters. A Promethean soldier with some crawlers. An elite in a banshee. If all of these enemies spawn in the match, thats still just just about fifteen AI enemies. Not to mention I am confident enough in my Halo abilities that I could kill all of those enemies single-handedly with little effort. That’s not me bragging, they just don’t look like a threat to the players. They just seem to hold a worthless patch of land and wait to be attacked (excluding what I’ve seen from Baron).

Do we have confirmation what “difficulty” these AI will be set at?

TL;DR: I think Wargames is much more similar to BTB than Firefight. The focus still appears to be PVP.

Again, I’m optimistic about Wargames, but I think it barely has anything to do with Firefight.

Just be thankful that Spartan Ops isn’t returning. That game modes was awful.

I’d love to see Firefight back…

it is totally not.

I hope they can at last implement a firefight mode post launch, on existing maps If needed.

To be fair every Halo game since 2009 has had at co-op experience outside of Campaign. It’s something that we’ve come to love and enjoy. It’s like a Treyarch COD game not having zombies. Yeah it wasn’t in all of their games in the COD series, but it was in every single one since it debuted in WaW. Series grow and get bigger. Bungie seemed to pile on features instead of drop one for another. I’m also very disappointed they just abandoned Spartan Ops. I thought they’d at least give it another try.
