firefight is so disappointing in reach

Reach firefight is absolutely pathetic compared to ODST firefight. Worst yet, they whored the gametype the is meant to be about survival and made it into a rocket spamming contest with unlimited lives, which I would be fine with if the whole reason I was excited about reach wasn’t because I wanted to finally be able to actually get more than 2 people to play in the survival mode… Arcade is fun mode and I support it being a playlist but it’s just not even remotely challenging.
I don’t give a $%&^ about most customization options- unlimited ammo rockets launchers with 3x overshield against grunts is not fun in the slightest to me. FF limited was a step in the right direction but then they removed the playlist, yes it is still in doubles but I’ld rather just do split screen ODST.
Recreating ODST firefight simply isn’t possible with reach considering several changes in Reach and even if it was why wouldn’t I just play ODST for better maps and no super elites? First the enemy’s accuracy is near perfect now, evading fire was possible in ODST but now they can reliably get direct hits with the grenade launcher as I am jetpacking high above heretic elites in arcade. Also it seems like shields are a lot weaker or something, it might just be the increased accuracy but it feels like I can barely peak my head over a wall before losing shield when fighting precision or sniper jackals or more than handful of enemies in FF limited.
But the most annoying change is elites default run speed being upped to sprint speed permanently. That coupled with evade make elites practically immune to needlers and grenades and much harder to hit in general, the changed melee mechanics give elites instant melee damage that usually kills in one hit which is complete bull. It’s so easy to see when compared to brute melee even in reach. I don’t think i have yet to be killed by a gravity hammer brute in reach. They were fun to fight against and try to whittle down as you bullfight them before they managed to get a good hit in. Sword elite just have to touch you and you die before they even swing.
I would have been able to get the endure achievement solo numerous times if it didn’t require four players in ODST, but in reach every time an high ranking elite catches you by surprise you basically just die because they outrun you, outmelee you, have perfect accuracy, and can take 2-5 times as much damage as you BEFORE mythic.

TLDR version: I hope firefight in Halo 4 is much closer to ODST than Reach. It’s no longer a survival mode in matchmaking, it’s either a rocket spamfest, or credit farmer’s playlist, and to me that is just sad considering how much potential it had… I wanted it to be like -Yoink!- zombies in CoD in that it lasted until you ran out of lives. No ulimited lives or time/round limit. I’ve played ODST games on solo heroic for 5+ hours and it was one of the most fun i’ve had playing games, I just wanted to be able to play with 4 other people consistently.

The lag in Firefight is what ruined it for me.

You know, you can still do the whole survival firefight thing… Just not through matchmaking. Which is exactly how it was with ODST, no FF matchmaking.

I ain’t gonna lie. I miss 4 player firefight, but I don’t miss the three kids I’d get stuck with that would die 10 times on the first wave. And I definitely don’t miss the lag from their toaster oven routers.

Otherwise, I actually enjoy trying to carry an Arcade scrub (kids who only play Arcade with bottomless rocks/FRGs) to the bonus round in FF Limited Doubles. During the map selection process I usually pick None of the Above, than FF Limited at the very last second to get the Limited Gametype since nobody ever wants to play it anymore. And if the other person stays, gets killed 10 times, it’s whatever. I just do my thing and play as if my back is against the wall every passing minute.

That is still a huge disappointment, the whole reason I was excited about reach was matchmaking for firefight. And like I said the game is just too different to be as much fun as ODST. every elite I fight is harder to me than a fuel rod chieftan on ODST simply because they a physically better in every way possible. These are spartans, spartans are on par with elites in strength and speed, this is just stupid. And don’t give me they are S-IIIs BS because the rookie in ODST had the same game stats as MC if not a little tougher (he didn’t die to sniper jackals in one shot on legendary, MC did.)

Firefight reach is only for credits and commendations. I set custom challenges for an easy 20k credits to try and catch up to my brothers rank. Now I WISH I didn’t have to farm to get my commendations maxed, but since this game is clearly flawed the only way for vehicular is to try, try, try while playing solo.

I WANTED TO ENJOY MAXING THEM OUT!!!

But NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I am so disappointed. After I got my fill of firefight arcade I discovered limited. I’ve never played odst firefight but I hear it was SOGOOD. And then limited was pulled from the shelves. After setting my usual Custom Challenges and getting the challenges I loaded up halo 2 campaign.

i think the big difference between the awesome halo 3 odst fireright and reach’s is the maps and how bad they are in reach at least thats one of the big factors for me

The biggest disappointment, to me, is there is no intense thrill to Reach’s FF. It’s more about spawn-killing and mindless shooting. Which isn’t bad in itself - but try going for the Endure achievement in ODST. That was intense and took quite amount of skill.

That being said, some people over at HBO have some great recommendations for new FF gametypes.

FF Limited is nothing like ODST FF. I have played alot of FF in Reach and have every commendation maxed apart from 2 but they are ONYXed. Reach FF is all about points and cr and not about survival. The coding is messed up with the AI as i can sit on every level and make the enemy static. In ODST the enemy would hunt you down. In reach i can sit on a hunters head and stop all enemy fire.

I cant hide the fact that i have played a lot of days in FF but it is stupidly easy. I can easily get 150000 pints playing on my own and still have 5 minutes remaining in FF Doubles.

All 343 need to do is bring back the survival in FF and it will become enjoyable. Get rid of game complete cr and just have commendations cr and jackpot. I could then finish the FF medals off. I could easily get 500 kills withot dying

I can remember playing so many epic and nailbitingly tense firefights in ODST. I haven’t played one in Reach that was memorable. This is one of my biggest gripes with Reach.
