Firefight game mode idea: Combat ops

Combat op

Now that the created are delt with, spartan recruits can be deployed in missions across the galaxy dealing with threats ranging from insurrectionists, to covenant remnants. Each mission has its own objective be it to save civilians or kill as many enemies as possible to allow marines some breathing room.

Gameplay

Combat ops is a wave based objective focused game mode like warzone firefight, but in it the waves are not the main focus, instead you have to complete 2 main objectives with 2 optional side objectives before evacuating. The waves are your ebb and flow of battle, when they die down you can take your time to re arm and push an objective but doing so while the wave is active is… ill advised.

Players always drop in either via pelican or ODST drop pods depending on the mission, with the first objective always being to take an FoB or secure it (defend.) This isn’t part of the two main objectives. From teh FoB the players can call in weapons and equipment for a score cost. with the Ma40, sidekick, grenades, and Br being free. The rest costingbetween 200 for a commando, and 2,000 for a tank/wasp.

Main objectives

The main objectives will always be a set of two with the following options.

Demolitions: destroy a structure with Bombs, or tanks

Attrition: kill X enemies

rescue civilians: save civilians from “prison traps” and bring them to the FoB pelican.

rescue marines: same as civilians but the escort targets are armed and can help you with other objectives.

Hack item: set up a hack on an item your AI will take time, this can be auto turrets, a spawn door, or even a hostile FoB.

Kill high value target: A boss fight, can be anything from a high value grunt, to a well grunt in a goblin. (other targets are things like a insurrectionist mantis, wraith master, hunter pair, grunt batallion, Promethean knight, bruit chieftan. ETc.

With the main objectives comes a good set of side objectives, these are optional but give high score amounts for completing.

Power defenses: take a power seed to a defense system be it an AA gun, or auto turret. (gives an extra gun in the fight)

Support marines:: kill targets in a specfic area of the map, this causes marines to spawn on the FoB. marines will be attacking the hostiles.

Destroy vehicles:: hostile vehicles spawn with the waves, destroying X of them will cause them to stop spawning.

Unique vehicle:: a unique vehicle has spawned destroy it or hyjack it,

hostile drop point:: a hostile entry point hack it, or destroy it to reduce spawns.

these objectives together make the main mission, completing the main two is your main objective, while the side objectives make life easier.

Like warzone firefight you will have rounds and waves. EAch round has infinite waves, but keep in mind if you loose the FoB you loose, so completing the mission as quickly as possible is a requirment. you have three rounds in each combat op, with 2 main and 2 side each. hostiles will be from the same group for each round.

HOSTILE GROUPS

Each mission will tell you during the “drop” what the hostiles are these come from the following pools of hostiles, each with their own vehicle set, hostile set, and HVTs.

Covenant remnants: These guys again, grunts, elites, jackals, and hunters beware.

Banished forces:: same as remnants but include brutes and skimmers

Forrunner constructs: sentinels, and prometheans

Created remnants: Prometheans, Grunts, humans

Inserectionists: Humans, jackals, elites

pirates: Humans, jackals, brutes.

Combat sim: UNSC marines, ODTS’s and Bot spartans.

Flood outbreak: Flood.

Yapyap: Grunts, grunts, grunts, wait is that a grunt riding a brute, More grunts, oh and did I mention grunts. (april fools event.)

No Ops please.
Just… no more, not after Spartan Ops.

It’s just a waste to dedicate the writing team to write a half-baked series of missions which ultimately mean very little to the core storyline.

Just give us classic Firefight, maybe in the open world of Zeta.
Like after Chief reclaimed all this land for us, SOMEONE has to hold it while he continues his fight. That’s when the S-IVs being trained are dropped in to hold.

Go to a FOB, throw up a beacon for matchmaking, get match made, start a Firefight. Not securing, not sabotaging, not destroying whatever, just plain ol classic Firefight. Heck, let us earn Credits from these too.

Why not, Some of us really like PvE.

I like PvE too, just not in the ways you described.
Sounds like a glorified mess, needing to worry about protecting an objective.

You know why people HATED Generator defense? Yea.
Classic Firefight with co-op buddies is where it’s really at.

For me it’s unnecessary a PvE, IMO 343 shouldn’t waste resources in this feature its enough with the coop campaign Spartan Ops and Firefigh were so boring. Better they should aiming in fix all the weapons issues, unbalanced MM, the BTB problems.

Actually, this could be a good idea. Or if you want to play a Spartan Ops like event where you fight Banished 6 months before Zeta Halo was fractured.

Yeah but with what I described one can easily disable the objectives and swap it to a basic firefight.
