After playing over 100 games of Firefight at this point (mostly solo), my win percentage is terrible, and I’m sure many other players have experienced this as well. I have no problem being challenged, and I think the mode has been pretty balanced since the hotfix, other than a few levels (looking at you Deacon Pipap). However, I have already completed my REQ Collection, so I am able to constantly call in weapons and vehicles to deal with each situation. Many other players are not as far into the game though. Too many times I see players running at mythic bosses with loadout weapons, and this version of Firefight is just not possible to win without REQs (or great teamwork). I try to help out by giving vehicles to other players when I can, but I’ve lost so many games because I am the only person calling in heavy REQs. When I win games, I am either playing with a fireteam or I get lucky and match with a group of players over Level 100.
Having said this, I believe Firefight would be greatly improved by adding a second mode with lesser difficulty. This secondary mode would be more like the beta, where it was possible to win games with the whole team using only loadout weapons. Additionally, the current mode would ideally have an entry requirement to be a certain level (around 80 to 100). By adding this second mode, Firefight would be enhanced for higher-level players while still providing newer players with the complete experience. The more difficult mode could also have higher RP and XP payouts to encourage players transitioning into the mode when they reach a certain level.
Apologies if this topic has already been covered, I don’t really browse this forum much. Firefight has always been my favorite mode in Halo, so I want to help the current version become less frustrating for all players. Additionally, I’m not trying to sound like I’m better than other players. I know I’m pretty average, but I have played more so I have more REQs.
TL;DR: Add second mode of easier difficulty for newer players.
To me it’s not really that it’s a “challenge”. It’s that bullet sponge bosses aren’t that fun at all. I had more fun playing the beta than the actual released version. It’s at the point where if you aren’t in a tank you are just wasting your time really.

I don’t know about Halo 2 legendary lol. The jackal snipers they brought in are bad enough. But I think heroic would be a good starting point for the lower difficulty. IIRC, wasn’t that what the beta was set at?

What would be some suggestions as to how to make the AI more challenging without making them more tanky? I definitely agree that some enemies are frustrating to deal with, but the only way I see to change Firefight at this point would be to make it a wave-based system with limited lives, more like older Firefights. However, I don’t think that is realistic at this point, and I can’t really think of any other ways to improve the AI.

H5 Legendary isn’t even that hard with the revive system.
(And for H2… All you need is patience.)
As for the idea of WZFF having separate difficulty modes, someone has already suggested this, but since I’m too lazy to find the thread I will just repeat what I said on there:
While it would be beneficial to have for newer players, the tradeoff/downfall is that search times in WZFF would be longer. Yes, it would stop people from being annoyed about bullet sponges that eat up more bullets then a shamwow, but at the same time, those who wants to play on the harder difficulty for more rewards might find it tedious to wait for a full WZFF match.
After playing a lot of Firefight I’ve noticed that most AIs are rather sluggish when it comes to taking initiative against players. Normally players have to walk in front of them to make them start attacking. They make up for this by being deadshot bullet sponges. My suggestion would be to make them more aggressive and predatory but in turn make them weaker and less accurate.

I agree OP. Great thoughts. They definitely need to do something like this, or nerf the hell out of WZFF as it is. It’s difficulty is just no fun at all.

True. But that warden boss battle though… had to get around it using the ground pound thing

Just use cover whenever possible and you should be fine.

The beta was legendary enemies with heroic health I believe

Am near to level 20, and totally agree with you for a hard necessity to bring out heavy guns AKA vehicles to the fight starting wave 3…ghosts are good to take out elites n crawlers but once they bring in banshees n tanks it gets a little challenging and since the respawn timer increases many at times new players are challenged by lack of choice in REQs or to even experiment with them in the battlefield.
My assumption was shouldn’t matchmaking decide the AI’s difficulty based on players n other factors before the game begins? So won’t better matchmaking algorithms solve this issue?
Added spawn timer
2.they make it impossible sometimes to actually get past round 4
3.5 minutes to kill at least a couple bosses (cough cough: warden eternal, deacon pipap, hunters(5) and almost a dozen knights that are mythic.
I hope that you can agree with me to
